Hayfever season

Posted on August 27th, 2008 by Jerry under Health, Life, Opinion, Shopping.

Had to go to the pharmacy today to buy some allergy medicine.  What a huge pain in the neck it is to have to go to the counter and present your driver’s license and ask permission to buy allergy medicine!  They have to put your name and address and license number and gender and phone number in their database, and then they will only allow you to buy a certain allotment per month.  And that allotment is NOT enough to get you through the month!  What a huge pain this is, and all because some meth heads use this kind of medicine to make their illegal drugs.  What is even more annoying is knowing that they also use drain cleaner and water softener salt to make their drugs, but you don’t have to register to buy THOSE products (yet!)

What a surprise – Biden as VP running mate!

Posted on August 23rd, 2008 by Jerry under Life, News, Opinion, Politics.

Well it’s on all of the news today that Barack Obama has announced that Joe Biden IS his pick for the VP running mate.  I was very surprised to hear that – I’ve been hearing and reading so many articles that were saying that the author of the article strongly felt that the best choice would be Hillary Clinton.  I think that if Hillary Clinton HAD been picked, then winning the election would have been a more “sure fire” bet because now I’m thinking that Hillary’s supporters are going to be so upset that they will vote for McCain simply because they are upset with Obama.  This sure will make the election more interesting!

Faking it at the Olympics

Posted on August 13th, 2008 by Jerry under Life, News, Opinion, Technology and gadgets.

I found it really sad that the folks in charge of the Olympics decided to have a seven year old girl lip sync a song during the Olympic opening season this week.  I was reading that the officials decided that the girlwhose voice was used at the age of ten was “too old” to actually be the one to perform for the ceremony, and the seven year old girl’s voice was not good enough to use, so they recorded the ten year old girl’s voice and the seven year old lip synced the song.  I think that is plain and simple a rotten shame, the ten year old who sang the song should have been the one who participated in the ceremony and gotten full credit for the song.  Having a seven year old girl lip sync and get all of the applause is just plain and simple an immoral act.

Texas thumbs its nose at President Bush, executes Mexican citizen

Posted on August 7th, 2008 by Jerry under Life, News, Opinion.

I was surprised to hear that the State of Texas refused to follow President Bush’s order to delay (by 30 days)the execution of a Mexican citizen who was convicted of raping and murdering two teenage girls in Houston Texas.  The delay was requested because it had been determined that when the man was arrested he was not told that he had the right to seek legal counseling from the Mexican consulate.  Although I agree that the man deserved to be executed for his crime, it is unfortunate that the man’s legal rights were violated.  This sets a dangerous tone for how the United States will be received in the international community if it continues to ignore international law.

Anthrax suspect kills himself

Posted on August 1st, 2008 by Jerry under Life, News, Opinion.

I was sorry to hear that Bruce Ivins killed himself today.  He was the FBI’s prime suspect in the 2001 anthrax case.  I heard that he was about to be indicted, and that the stress of the investigation pushed him to the abyss of despair.  I don’t know if he was guilty or not, but I think it is a real shame that he killed himself.  Now I think there will always be some doubt as to his guilt or innocence.  We’ll never know for sure!
