As much as I like to barbeque and grill, there are some things that I have never attempted. A good friend of mine tells me that he fixes a delicious and tender beef brisket. That intrigues me – I have always though of brisket as a tough, undesirable meat. Perhaps I will try his method and see if I can get the same results.

My crazy wife has decided that she wants to take belly dancing classes. She made that announcement after going to a restaurant where the entertainment was a belly dancer. She has been spending hours on the Internet, trying to find belly dance classes in Virginia and finally found a woman who calls herself “Miramar” who gives belly dancing classes in Winchester at her home studio and through the local Parks and Recreation program.  It should prove very interesting to see if she actually goes to class, and if she decides to share with me what she has learned.  As long as she doesn’t try to get me to get up on stage and shimmy and shake I’m all right with it!

One of the places on my “wish list” of travel destinations is Myrtle Beach.  I’ve heard so much about it from so many friends about how they have gone on vacation and stayed at one of the Oceanfront Myrtle Beach Hotels and had a great time.  They’ve spent a lot of time on the hundreds of golf courses in the areas, but also went to some great shows, concerts, and amusement parks too.

Well, I’m not a big golfer, but I certainly would love to stay in an Oceanfront Myrtle Beach Hotel where the beach is on my doorstep!  That would just be so perfect, to be able to spend the day at an amusement park, go to a concert, and then spend some time relaxing on the beach before turning in for the night.

And just being able to walk out the door of the Myrtle Beach Hotel  and be right there on the sand is definitely a big selling point!  I”m getting too lazy to pack up the car full of beach chairs, ice chests, blankets and towels to go spend some time on the beach.  Just being able to sit in a chair that is already there, provided by the hotel, and be able to just carry ONE drink with me, and go inside if I want another one is my idea of a great beach vacation!

Several weeks ago we ordered a new retractable awning.  It arrived last weekend, and a couple of my friends came over and helped me to put it up on Monday.  It took several hours, but we got it up without a hitch.  The awning goes over a small deck that we have off of the dining room.  According to the compass, the deck faces north, but it never seems to be very shady, so it is quite warm out there.  My wife has mentioned several times that she would sit out there on the deck more often if it wasn’t so hot out there, so I figured that this new awning just might do the trick.

So, the awning is up and functioning.  It has a great little remote control device that makes it go in and out.  Within seconds of the awning being extended, you can tell the difference in comfort!  It does make the dining room darker, but I think it also helps to keep the house cooler, so that is a plus.  I think we are going to be glad we got it!

My twenty six year old niece is finally getting her own car.  She had been just borrowing her parent’s car when she needed a ride, but they have decided that they are tired of her returning their cars with an empty tank and told her that it is time that she had her own wheels.  One of the biggest reasons that she didn’t have her own car to begin with was that they had heard that it was impossible to get cheap car insurance for women.  Especially for women under the age of twenty-five.  They’ve heard that insurance companies have higher rates for those under that age.  Well, now she’s twenty-six, so that roadblock has been removed.

When I asked them where they found a good price on car insurance for women they told me that they found a website that served as a search engine focusing just on women’s car insurance. They plugged in their zip code and the website showed them a lot of different insurance companies that served their area that have good rates.  They found that very helpful.
