Recently my sister-in-law took a business trip to Chicago. She hates to fly, and it was only a day’s drive so she decided to take her car. After all the company was going to pay for her time and mileage to drive and then when she got there she wouldn’t have to rely on a rental car or taxi’s. Well wouldn’t you know it that the water pump on her Toyota Corolla decided that was the perfect time to quit on her.
So she called me and asked for some advice on what to do. I went online to the repairpal.com website and found some Chicago auto repair shops that she could take her car to. I also found an estimate for her as to what she could expect to pay for the repairs. I think that this particular website is a valuable tool for anyone who owns a car and has to take it to unfamiliar territory! It gives you a measure of control in a difficult situation that might otherwise make you feel very vulnerable.
I was watching the news this morning and saw a story about a big snowball fight that was held in DC yesterday. Apparently it was an organized thing and it was being held by adults. Everyone was having a great time – it is unusual to have this much snow around here! So why not celebrate with a good old-fashioned snowball fight? Well, aside from the fact that I don’t enjoy snowball fights I think that if that is something you’d enjoy, well then have at it!
Well, a stray snowball hit some guy’s Hummer. The guy was inside the Hummer. Obviously not a voluntary participant in the melee! He was really angry that a snowball hit his Hummer and he drew a gun and started waving it around. Police were called. The driver of the Hummer was struck in the head by another snowball (I guess payback for being such a killjoy!) When all was said and done it turns out that the guy with the gun was an off-duty plain clothes detective. The police department tried to claim that he didn’t draw his gun, but there was a video made of the entire thing and there is no doubt that he had a gun out! Now he is on desk duty.
So tell me, what was he thinking, jumping out of his Hummer and waving a gun around over a simple stupid snowball? Get a sense of humor dude!
I’m the first one to admit that I’m no expert about Stock Trading. But it really galled me when many years ago a friend of mine decided to become a stock broker and he tried to talk me out of buying the Disney Stock and the Wal-Mart stock that I wanted to buy! He tried to convince me that those two stocks were not good investments! I had a really hard time getting him to buy those stocks for me, and I’m glad that I over-rode his recommendations and went with my own gut feelings.
Those stocks that I bought have done well in the market, while the stocks he was suggesting have not done well at all. I suspect that there was some ulterior motive behind his company telling him to push those certain stocks, and it certainly made me very uneasy.
That’s the biggest reason why I turned to Online Trading when it became available. I think that I’d prefer to do business with an Online Broker because I can make my own decisions about what investments I want to make without feeling that I’m jeopardizing any friendships!
Ok, I admit I like Star Wars. But I’m not obsessive about it. In fact I think I’ve only seen each Star Wars movie once. OK twice. But each viewing was years apart. Anyway the point is that I liked the movies to the point where I remember many of the characters, scenes and “lines.” Like “How wude!”
So I had to laugh when I found this video on the stupidvideos.com website, featuring Luke Skywalker. I didn’t know he suffered from OCD! I hope you enjoy this video as much as I did!
I’ve never met anyone who claims that they had a horrible time at an Oceanfront Myrtle Beach Hotel. It certainly seems like a major vacation destination spot among many of my friends! Paul and Sandy have invited us to join them for a few days at the Resort in Myrtle Beach that they have reserved for their vacation in February. The Myrtle Beach Resort that they are going to has condominium suites with several bedrooms in it. Paul and Sandy like to invite their friends to join them for a couple of days when they go.
I think we’ll try to join them – I like going to new places, but I like it even better when I go with someone who has already been there. That way they can help play “tour guide” and steer us in the direction of only the things that are fun.
I’m already looking foward to spending some time relaxing on the warm sandy beach and enjoying several dinner shows that are produced in the area. I’d like to see the Dixie Stampede!
