Tutoring help

Posted on December 5th, 2009 by Jerry under Computers and/or Internet, Education and Personal Growth, Life, Technology and gadgets.

I’m often finding that people are often asking for tutoring assistance for their kids in math subjects.  I think that the need for algebra help and algebra 2 help is on the rise because so many schools have stopped supplying late busses for the kids to ride home.  Now if a kid has to stay after school for some reason, his parents need to figure out a way to get him home!  That can be a real issue for kids that need to stay after school for tutoring help!

Fortunately for them, the Internet is a great resource to parents, teachers, and students alike.  It doesn’t take a lot of effort to find help with most kinds of subject.  With a few well-placed questions, the student can find a site that will help them figure out their homework math answers.

I know that when my kids were younger, they had the most trouble with math word problems and algebra word problems. They were lucky that I had a good solid math background and could help them with their math here at home. Not all parents can help their kids with math problems.

Pulling out the Christmas decorations

Posted on December 5th, 2009 by Jerry under Entertainment and Fun, Friends/Family, Home and garden, Life, Money and Finances, Technology and gadgets.

I love to decorate the yard for Christmas! I have a couple of those big inflatable decorations that look like big snow globes with Santa and/or Frosty inside them. I have a couple of wire forms with lights on them that look like reindeers. And of course I like to line the rooftop and windows with strings of lights. I like to hang a big wreath on the front door, too.

My wife fusses at me, though, because she is trying to save money and she is always turning all of my decorations off by 8pm. She says we are all home, so what do we care what the outside of the house looks like? I can’t seem to impress on her that I want to entertain the neighbors and the passers-by. I think she is being just a little bit too scroogy for me! When I point that out to her, she doesn’t seem to impressed and suggests that maybe I should take over the duty of paying the bills and figuring out how to pay the electric bill when that comes in!

The fluctuating credit card situation

Posted on December 5th, 2009 by Jerry under Friends/Family, Life, Money and Finances.

Credit Cards seem to be in the news an awful lot lately.  It seems that I can’t turn on the television news anymore without hearing a story about how the companies are changing their terms to the consumer now to increase their interest rates and fees so that they can beat the deadline the Congress has passed for the bill that is supposed to prevent them from doing what they are doing now.  Personally I am outraged that these companies are putting the hurts on the consumer in this way.  It sure is going to hurt the retail stores this Christmas – people are going to be loathe to use their cards in this economy!  I know a lot of people who have decided to pay cash, and since they are limited on cash that means that they will be buying less this season.

I think that this is a good time to step back and Compare Credit Cards.  See which ones are increasing their rates, and which ones are not.  It should not be very difficult to determine which are the Best Credit Cards for your needs.  I think that this is the perfect time to send a message to the big companies that we don’t need them as much as they need us!  If that means that we spend less money on Christmas gifts this year, then so be it!  The kids don’t need a dozen gifts under the tree!

How do you reach Ellen?

Posted on December 5th, 2009 by Jerry under Friends/Family, Life.

My sister was telling me that she wants to send an email to Ellen Degeneres to ask for her help with her financial troubles. She is experiencing deep troubles that I just cannot help her with. She went to the Ellen show’s website and couldn’t find anywhere to click on to send an email or contact them. There were articles there like a blog that you could leave comments on, but she didn’t want her appeal to be public and show up on the website. So, if you are reading this and know of a way to contact Ellen, would you please let me know?

Men and cars

Posted on December 5th, 2009 by Jerry under Friends/Family, Life, Shopping.

My wife has observed that men define themselves by their jobs and their cars.  Although that sounds sexist, I have to admit that she has a point.  I don’t know very many guys out there who define themselves in words other than their occupation.  How many men do you meet who say they are a anything other than their occupation?  I’d wager very few of them!

There are a lot of out there that definitely define themselves by what kind of car they drive.  For example, guys who want to advertise themselves as viral tend to want to drive a chevrolet corvette.  They think it is a chick magnet!  My wife says that those kind of chicks aren’t worth attracting!  She calls them gold-diggers, and other words that I can’t repeat on this blog!  I don’t think now would be a good time to tell her that I want to buy one myself!

My wife thinks that sensible women would be more inclined to be attracted to a nissan xterra or a land rover.  She says at least you can pile in more than two people, groceries, luggage, and a dog or two!  And she says that the sensible woman is always thinking about how things can benefit the entire family, not just try to impress people with status symbols!  I wonder if any scientist has done any kind of study to learn more info about how women feel about the different kinds of cars that men drive, and whether that has an effect on their attraction to those men!

New recipes

Posted on December 5th, 2009 by Jerry under Food, Friends/Family, Life.

My wife has decided we are in a slump with our meals.  She does this now and then, which alarms me to no end.  I am a basic meat and potatoes man; new foods scare me!  So she has been spending hours at the computer looking at different sites that show recipes.  One site that impressed me was the one called allrecipes.com.  What impressed me about the site was the fact that this site had a mechanism that you could use to scale the recipe up or down.  I think that is a really handy feature to have!  Although I am not too excited about trying new recipes, I have to humor my wife from time to time and let her try some out.  If I don’t do that, I think she’ll explode!
