With the economy in such crisis people are turning to all kinds of ways to get cash in order to survive. Pawn shops are doing a booming business, profiting off of people’s hardships. I have a buddy who lives in Dallas, TX that opened up a Pawn Shop and is doing very well.
There are pawn shops all over Texas and he has been making connections along the way with owners of Austin Pawn Shops and Houston Pawn Shops as well. It’s all on who you know and who you are related to these days. Texas is one big state so he has his hands full, but is having a blast along the way.
I’ve never heard of any thing good coming out of Texas so it is a pleasure to hear that he is doing well and I wish him all the luck in the world and maybe one day I’ll get a chance to go down and visit him.
You Tube has so much to offer. I spend way too much time looking up videos and reliving music memories. But it’s all good. Music is life and life is music. Remember this one.
I still see and hear this song from time to time and it still cracks me up!
Our son is graduating from Princeton in a few months. What a great experience it has been for him. We are so thankful for all of the great financial aid opportunities that allowed him to go to such a great school! Now he is looking at employment after graduation. One of the opportunities he has been offered is as a consultant in London with a firm that works with packaging manufacturers to help them to “green-up” their companies.
He was saying that in addition to redesigning packaging, his hope is to help to minimize the impact of the waste products, and minimize fuel consumption. There is so much involved in making packaging that it is really a field of many opportunities for improvement! And let’s face it, it is almost impossible nowadays to buy anything that isn’t packaged in some way. From food to toys to medicines to tools, almost everything comes in some kind of box or plastic container. I’ve heard that there has been some movement towards using plastic made from cornstarch that is biodegradable! Isn’t that incredible!
He has a great interest in environmental engineering, and he thinks that this would be a great way to make a difference in the world. His mother and I are so proud of him! We’ll really miss him if he does in fact go out of the country, but we think that it’s the opportunity of a lifetime! And quite frankly, if either one of us had been given a great job opportunity like that when we were his age, we would have jumped on it with both feet!
In addition, his mother has many relatives that live in London, and we are sure that each and every one of them would jump at the opportunity to meet him, and show him around the country. I almost envy his opportunity! This is not the only offer he has received, however. He has had other great offers as well. I don’t know all the details, but am very interested in learning about them!
My wife has been telling me that there have been a lot of times recently at work where there have been customers that did not speak English very well. It has been a very long time since she took Spanish in junior high school (I won’t say HOW long ago, but let’s face it, she’s no longer a spring chicken! More like a stewing hen!) Heh Heh! Oops, what’s that dear? Never mind, a private joke!
Anyway, I just went online to look for some small electronic translators that I could get for her to take with her to work. I actually found some very reasonably priced – under $20! I ordered two of them. I”m looking forward to them arriving. I want to see how well they work!
One of the most annoying things that I experience on a very frequent basis is the absence of any kind of address sign on may of the business buildings along the Main Street in our town. If I hadn’t grown up here, I swear I would never be able to find anything based on just being given an address! The vast majority of the buildings along the road need some kind of address plaque.
That is one of the things that I think makes a town more “user-friendly” to tourists and out-of-towners. What good is a GPS unit if it tells you that you’ve reached your destination and you look around for address signs and can’t find one anywhere?
I think that it should be part of the town code in downtown that easily seen address plaques are a REQUIREMENT. And by easily seen, I mean easily seen from a vehicle from the road, not something tucked up under an eave that can only be seen by pedestrians!
