Risy business

Do you remember all of the big hullabaloo that happened when diet pills with ephedra were banned a few years ago?  Apparently even though these products helped people to lose weight, it increased the risk of strokes and heart attacks to a dangerous degree.  And yet people still try to buy it illegally!  I wouldn’t be surprised, though, if what people think is ephedra is really a counterfeit drug that is nothing but ground up drywall.

Starting up

I met Stan for lunch today at Claire’s and were talking about how his new business is shaping up.  He was telling me how amazing it is that there are so many decisions that have to be made – and the small details, such as where to put the new cash register and epson receipt printer without having to run a lot of new cable.   Starting a business can be a real challenge!

It isn’t fat

Do you remember when the alli diet pills hit the market?  All I kept hearing about was how it was going to prevent some of the fat from being absorbed into the dieter’s system.  I don’t understand how that is going to help someone lose weight – it isn’t fat that makes someone gain weight, it is calories.  Fat will clog arteries and give you a heart attack, but it won’t make you fat unless you are eating a lot of calories too!
