Jerry Loggins Notes

Notes on life, family and friends by Jerry Loggins

Sharon was telling the other women at work that she is planning to have a graduation party for the kindergarten class that her grandson is in. I had to suppress a chuckle, just the thought of making such a big deal about kids graduating from kindergarten seemed like a silly idea. But then I remembered when I graduated from kindergarten our school made a big ceremony out of it too. That got me wondering who in the world even came up with kindergarten graduation ideas in the first place? But when I stop and think about it, I realize that there aren’t enough celebrations in life and maybe we really do need to stop and celebrate the small victories like that. What do you think?

Small Business Marketing

This horrific economic mess that we have been dealing with for so very long now, has certainly made it a challenge to bring in enough money to keep things together, things can get “unglued” so quickly. So I have been spending a bit of time playing around with a website I started some time ago but never really got it off the ground, so to speak. My hope is to make a little money on the side to help out with all of the bills that just keep piling in each month. My site offers hunting products and supplies along with other gear that are specific to the area that I live in. The problem is that no one seems to know about my site and the good deals that can be found there.

The one thing that I recently researched and learned about was that it is not too awfully difficult to increase the amount of traffic on my site. By using , a company much like RevLocal, in which they can work their local search optimization magic which will then increase that amount of people/traffic to my site and help me get the word out and hopefully generate some much needed sales.

I’ve learned that there is so much involved in having a good quality web site.  First of  all you have to have the right web hosting and lord knows that that can be pretty tricky if you don’t know what you are doing or getting yourself involved in. And then of course you have to have a good IT to help with all of those issues that an every day person would be clueless in.And lastly you have to learn all about small business marketing and all that it has to offer via the Internet. It’s all about specialties these days!

Alternative lifestyle

Aunt Martha sent us a postcard from Nashville, telling us that they are having a layover there for a couple of extra days due to unexpected motorhome repairs that had to be done as a result of the damage done to their RV from the big storm that uprooted a tree and dropped it onto their roof. Thankfully they were in the other end of the RV when it happened, so they weren’t hurt, but the damage is fairly expensive and they had to order some parts. In the meantime they are staying in a motel and planning out where they want to head to next. They are enjoying their new life as retired nomads! I’m glad for them, after raising their three daughters and selling their house they deserve to have all of the fun they can get!

Buyer Beware

I was very disturbed today when I went into my local drugstore to buy some vitamins and saw that the expiration date on the bottle I picked up was October of 2008!  I brought that bottle to the attention of the store manager, and she thanked me for bringing it to her attention and said she’d take care of it.  I decided to spot check a few other items at the store while I was there because I was curious to see if that was an isolated accident.  Sad to say that I found quite a few things that had passed the expiration date.  I guess I’ll be checking expiration dates on more things that I buy in the future!

Out Building Issues

Almost each day I find something that makes me realize just how badly this place needs work. The one out building that is used for the storing of and the using of various tools and the like, is in such sad shape that I find myself doing without or doing something else in an effort not to have to go in the darn place. Besides smelling bad, the dampness has attracted numerous bugs and god only knows what else has found it’s way in there.

What I really need to do is empty the whole thing out, put in a nice tool box and a new workbench and start filling it up again with only the essentials and in an orderly fashion. I’ve seen some nice workbenches online, which would do nicely in there. I don’t think that this is going to happen any time soon, but something to put on the back burner, to be sure.

Something else I want and need to do is to start planning on purchasing some out buildings made of metal and/or steel. I’ve hear a lot about these Future Steel Buildings that seem to be right up my alley. I know of a few people that have gone with these Future steel buildings and they couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Next time I get a chance I’ll have to look up the website and start researching for myself.
