Age is Only a number

Most of us have heard the expression “Age is only a number” and the popular “Your only as old as you feel”. Well, I am a firm believer that those are more than expressions, those are a way of life for those who embrace it and live that way. Me and my husband have been married for 50 absolutely magical years. Even though I grew up in a small town on the outskirts of Michigan I was able to eventually cross paths with my future husband Bill while I was visiting some family out in California when I was only 12 years old. From that day on I knew Bill was for me and he tells me he also knew that I was for him. So, after birthing 5 children, living in 8 different states, and having 3 grandchildren it is to be expected we have slowed down a bit from our youth, at least for awhile anyway.

It was a typical Friday in Florida type weather when over our morning coffee Bill asked me how I would feel about if we sold the house and moved into a senior living facility. At first I was dead set against it. But after a few weeks Bill had convinced me to at least go over there and have a look. So reluctantly Bill and I went to the senior “campus” as they call it and as they say the rest is history. I absolutely loved the place! There were seniors everywhere, and they all where laughing and doing stuff. Four weeks later Bill and I moved in and the first night we went to a senior health spa to pamper ourselves. It was heaven! I didn’t want to leave the spa. The next night we were at an old time box dinner and I noticed that Bill and I seemed to be asking people to repeat things to us. But others were not asking us to repeat things. Then it clicked, everyone has hearing aids but Bill and I. So, Bill and I got a hearing test, which proved we both had hearing loss. Two hearing aids later and it was like a whole new world opened up to us and we were kids again! I felt like a teenager. staying out late and “playing” with our new friends in the center and hearing every bit of it! Age really is only a number.
