For years I’ve been waiting for a time when solar is made easy. Even though solar power has been available for a couple of decades now, the practicality of the technology being within the reach of the average American homeowner has yet to appear on the horizon. For as long as I can remember my wife has taken full advantage of the passive solar energy in the winter by opening the doors and curtains that face the sun during the day to allow the sun’s rays to warm up the house as much as possible, and making sure to close them all again when the sun started to wane. And in the summer, as much as we enjoy having a house full of sunlight, we pull down the window shades and close the doors to the hot sun, to help keep the house cool and to reduce the work and energy usage of the air conditioner.

Even so, we would ultimately like to take better advantage of the newest technology when it becomes within our financial reach, of putting solar panels on our roof to help reduce our electricity usage and to help heat and cool the house. Just the idea of not having to pay the electric company, or the gas company for our lights, heat, and air conditioning gets my juices flowing! My wife has even suggested that we look into getting a small windmill to see if we could generate our own electricity with it to help cut down on our electric bills. With so many people living in our house, and everyone being on a different schedule of wakefulness and sleeping, our lights and climate control are constantly going, so our bills for electricity and climate control are probably a lot higher than many families bills are.

Margie called me last night and asked me if I could help her out this weekend with a flower delivery job. She has been given a very large order coming up for Easter and her regular delivery driver fell down some stairs yesterday and broke his leg, so he is unable to drive for the next six weeks. I told her I’d be glad to help – it will be a fun change of pace for me to drive around town and deliver flowers!

The last time that my wife and I went for a week-long vacation trip, we had a close friend stay at our house to take care of the pets and the house. A few days after we had returned home my wife was telling me that she was very upset because she was missing some of her good jewelry. We looked high and low for the jewelry, but it was nowhere to be found. Eventually we decided that we were really rather foolish to have a house-sitter come into the house, and that were lucky that more things weren’t missing. I guess in this day and age it isn’t just stores and businesses that need safes, homes need safes too. Gone are the days when you could simply leave the doors unlocked and expect to come home to a completely un-touched and intact home.

So we have agreed that we need to start looking for the right kind of safe. I think that we should get one of the fireproof cannon safes that I found online last night. She wants to get a gun safe. Maybe we can find one safe that will serve both purposes!

Last night our Lead Street Networking group had a new member be the guest speaker for the week. Joel just recently moved into town and set up shop. He has been a member of the group for about six weeks now, and asked to be added to the speaker’s list. He passed around some photographs that he had taken when he was working for a philadelphia wedding photography professional and talked about the different types of cameras and lenses that he uses in his work. He passed around some of the equipment for us to look at – one of his zoom lenses was really strong – so strong I think that you could see a pimple on a gnat’s nose three miles away if you looked closely! Some of that equipment is really fascinating!

Nora told me that she has been looking online at the houses for sale louisville ky to see what the housing market is like there. She has been looking for a job for two years now, and has been offered a job interview in louisville next week. She told me that she’s not sure yet if she would want to live there, and wanted to do a little bit of research before accepting the job interview. I suggested that she might consider taking the job and renting an apartment before jumping into buying a house. That way if she decides that she doesn’t like it there, or if the job doesn’t work out for her it would be easier to relocate.
