He called last night to ask us for our social security numbers because he was listing us as beneficiaries on the new life insurance policy he was buying. He said that one of the benefits of his new job was great term life insurance rates so he was going to take advantage of that. We are really pleased that he thought of us that way!

My eleven year old niece spends a good amount of time on the lap top that Santa Claus brought to her last Christmas. She is a good kid and she certainly deserved getting a nice computer of her own. Lap tops aren’t cheap and times are tight so she must be doing something right in order to have lap top that is top notch and makes mine look like a K-Mart model – LOL!

Anyway she keeps busy after school and on the weekends playing “girl games” online. They have come a long way with the selection of girl games that are available these days. There was a major outcry for more girl games about 10 years ago and they have tried to fill the void to accommodate the female population that likes to play games with all of today’s technology and gadgets.

I think Ms Pac Man was actually the first video game that was aimed at the more feminine crowd. We have come a long way since the 80’s haven’t we. If I had all the money that I spent on those games that were in all of the popular bars and taverns, I’d have a nice check book balance.

The wife and I are going to be celebrating yet another wedding anniversary come the end of August. Man these years are just passing away like crazy, time flies when you are having fun! It is always a challenge trying to find the perfect gift for my wife each year. I mean first there is her birthday, then there is Christmas and then along comes the anniversary, not to mention Valentine’s Day!

I believe that this year I will be looking online to find her favorite Cologne. Good thing she still has a little left in the bottle on her dresser for me to get the name off of the darn thing. I can never remember what it is called, even after 30 years of being with the woman! The Internet will make finding one of her favorite Fragrances a much easier task to take on. It was a real pain in the rear in the years before the Internet when I used to have to bounce around from store to store in order to find it each time. A man like me just doesn’t feel comfortable in the Perfume department, ya know what I’m saying?

Anyway I do believe that a nice dinner and a nice gift will make it an evening to remember, at least until the next one rolls around in only 12 months.

One of my cousins has been studying up to get her realtors license because she thinks that she can actually make a living selling Wilmington NC real estate. Right now I would have a really hard time believing that anyone can make a living as a realtor!

I can’t remember the last time I’ve ever been to North Carolina other than to simply drive through on my way to Florida! I can’t really say that it looked much different than Virginia to me, but who am I to say?

Last night my wife decided to bring pizza home for dinner on her way home from work. She called the Pizza Hut that she drives past twenty minutes before she left work. She ordered her pizza (only one, mind you) and was told it would be ready in twenty minutes. She got there thirty minutes later, and paid the $11 tab. After she paid the tab, she was told that they were short handed that night and running “a little behind.” She waited over a half hour before her pizza was ready. If she had known that they had not even started her pizza before she showed up she would have cancelled the order and gone to McDonald’s! Not impressed at all! Next time she wants pizza, she’ll be asking if the pizza is ready before she pays for it!

And counterfeit drugs? People are actually naive enough to buy prescriptions online, thinking that they are getting the real thing? That can be so dangerous! The show had a small segment about a man and his wife that went for botox treatments and got counterfeit botox injections and almost died! Yikes! And now they are visually scarred for life! Scary stuff!

Last week I received an email notice from Discover that I was nearing my pre-set spending limit. I was quite surprised because I had just paid off the card and had not used it since I paid it off! So I went online and looked at my recent activity. There were a lot of fraudulent charges on my account – some to Microsoft X-Box and some to Apple Ipod! I immediately called Discover and reported the unauthorized charges. They immediately closed my account and sent me a new card. The new card arrived in less than a week. I have to admit that it was a hassle notifying the different companies that bill my monthly charges to that account, but all in all it was a fairly painless process. Thankfully I’m not responsible for those fraudulent charges so I’m happy about that. Isn’t it nice when a credit card company does somethng good?!

I can remember the day my wife came home from one of her business classes and told me that she had just learned that only the wealthiest 2% of Americans owned any stock at all. Can you imagine that 98% of us Americans don’t own any stock, and that owning stock (or not) is one of the measures of wealth (or lack thereof) in the social services offices as ways to determine if you are poor enough to receive food stamps?

It was right about that same time that my wife decided to take a closer look at Online Trading. Up until that point she had purchased a couple of IRA Accounts and was Stock Trading with a broker that had been a friend of her ex-husband’s. She decided that it was time to take advantage of the financial benefits of instant trading and low cost trading fees. She was pretty tired of having to chase down her brick and mortar broker to buy or sell stock.

He plugged it in and let the cord drape across the room so that when his dog walked past the table, it pulled the laptop off the table. Yes, the laptop was totalled. No, he had not bought insurance on it. So when Jim told me that he wanted to buy an ipad, I told him that he’d best be paying for ipad insurance!

I was just reading an article on the cnnmoney.com website that a lot of companies are refusing to hire people who are unemployed! (Click here to read the article.) I have to say that this kind of news is very alarming! People are still being laid off because companies are downsizing, not because the employee did anything wrong! If this is true, then I would strongly encourage people to take on a 2nd job, so if anything happens to their “real job” and they have to look for a new job, they don’t have to say on their application that they are unemployed! What a mess!
