A Last Minute Christmas Gift Idea

Posted on December 22nd, 2011 by Jerry under Business, Computers and/or Internet, Entertainment and Fun, Opinion, Travel.

I’ve been thinking that a nice Christmas gift for the wife would be a get-a-way at one of the nicer Oceanfront Myrtle Beach Resorts come summer. We are expecting a nice tax refund check this up and coming spring, and I can’t think of a better way to spend it than the two of us spending a long weekend at Myrtle Beach, soaking up the sun on the beach and on the golf course. Many of the Myrtle Beach Resorts offer golf packages that seem right nice and affordable.

We haven’t gotten away, just the two of us in so long. I think it would be a good thing for us both. I’m banking on using the Internet and Googling “Beach Resorts Myrtle Beach” and seeing what I can come up with on such short notice. With such horrible weather conditions outside today it seems that it would be a good way to spend the day looking around online.

We will see what I can come up with, maybe print off some of the information that I find and put it in an envelope and put it under the tree for her on Christmas morning. That should be a smile on her face and when she is happy, I’m happy as well!

Moolala

Have you ever heard of a website called Moolala.com? Me neither, until a friend of mine sent me a message about how one of the agencies that she does business with (Triangle Direct) had done a deal with Moolala that they would provide matching funds for every coupon sold to raise money to stop child trafficking. It does my heart good to hear of companies trying to do the socially responsible thing. Kudos to both Moolala and Triangle Direct!

International Movers

Posted on December 15th, 2011 by Jerry under Business, Friends/Family, Health, Opinion, Travel.

One of the most stressful things that a person can encounter in life is moving. I remember when we moved into this place I promised myself that this would be the last time I ever had to deal with moving, at least that is the plan for now. My brother on the other hand in now checking into Overseas Moving companies that will get all of his, his wife’s and kids belongings over to Italy safe and sound due to the health concerns of his father and mother-in-law who still live over there.

I have never had to deal with International Shipping, so I really can’t offer them any assistance, advice or guidance on that subject, but I can help in other ways while they attempt to get ready for their big move. Looks like I’ll be helping them sort, trash, give a way, sell and pack up all of their belongings up until the International Movers take over and start doing their part. At least this isn’t going to start happening until some time in April. Hopefully the weather won’t be so harsh, nothing worse than moving during the winter months.

Thinking About Awnings

Posted on December 11th, 2011 by Jerry under Business, Home and garden, Life, Shopping.

My wife has been asking me to look into buying awnings to put over the windows of our house.  I’ve been putting it off.  I can’t really say why I’ve been putting it off; I think maybe it’s one of those “if the wife suggests it, then it must be stupid” ideas that I keep in my head.  But now a few friends have been telling me that they have put awnings over their windows and that it has made a tremendous difference in how much cooler it keeps their house, and how much money it is saving on their air conditioning costs.  So, now I’m starting to think maybe it is something we really should look into doing.  After all, saving money is a good idea, and using less electricity is good for the environment.  I wonder if we can get a tax credit for installing awnings?

The World Wide

Posted on December 3rd, 2011 by Jerry under Business, Computers and/or Internet, Life, Money and Finances, Opinion, Technology and gadgets.

When I go to the weekly networking meeting with my friends I sometimes have a hard time sitting quietly to listen to some of the folks there that are promoting their businesses. The reason that I’m saying that is because some of these folks are a little bit rough around the edges when it comes to their presentations.

One of the business people there is self employed as a business promoter. Basically he just stands up and says that he can help businesses with their SEO for their websites. I think that he would be more effective if he explained to people why that is important because there are a lot of people there that don’t even have a website for their businesses! The Internet is making the world a smaller place, and if people want to grow their businesses, I think that they should at least consider having their own Home page to help people find their business!

So anyway this guy talks about using a pay-per-click service to help drive traffic to his customer’s websites. I think that pay-per-click can help, but I think that is just one of the many ways that people can increase their rankings and visibility. I’d like to encourage folks that want to monetize their website or promote their website that they need to carefully look at the Advertiser page and the Publisher page of any website that is claiming to help people with their SEO and get a better feel for how that company actually performs their SEO marketing functions. And reading them carefully might give you a better idea of exactly how professional that company really is. If their website contains a lot of spelling and grammatical mistakes, you might ask yourself if this is really the company you want to represent your company on the Internet.
