One of my proudest moments as a parent was when I went to the town’s big Easter parade and saw my son in the high school’s marching band. He was playing one of the snare drums, and the band was playing the song “Seventy Six Trombones” from the musical “Music Man.” Although it has been probably over twenty years since I saw the movie, that is a song that I frequently sing to myself, so I was really pleased that the marching band was playing that tune as they marched past me. And even better was the fact that my son’s eyes met mine, so he could see how proud I was to see him in the parade. That was a good day.

This guest post from Josue Nichols

It seems like there are just so many direct tv channels! My grandparents have Direct TV at their house so every time we go there, I will just look through the guide and every channel they have. They actually have a lot of what Direct TV offers, but there are just so many channels! One afternoon, my family and I went to my grandparents’ house after church. I knew right away that meant we would be there the rest of the day. While I was waiting for my grandmother to whip something delicious up for dinner, I just kept channel surfing. I think I spent that entire afternoon doing that. Just watching bits and pieces of different shows, looking at the guide while I watch shows and just taking in as much as I could. Right before dinner, I actually ended up settling on a show on the History channel. It was something about the Civil War. I knew I had a test coming up about the Civil War in school, so I thought the show might help. It was definitely more in depth than what I would have to know for my test. I got so caught up I almost did not hear that dinner was ready.

Every now and then I’m taken aback by the fact that even though the people in the United Kingdom speak English, and the people in the United States of America speak English, there frequently are differences in what words are used to mean what. For example, in London, a “flat” is a place to live. In Washington DC a “flat” is a tire that has lost all of its air. In London, a “lift” is an elevator. In Washington DC a “lift” means “a ride to somewhere you need to go.”

So when I overheard Doug talking in the lounge earlier today about how his aunt was looking into double glazing the windows the first thing that came to mind was “why would anyone put doughnut frosting on windows?” Thoughts of the story of Hansel and Gretel and the Gingerbread house instantly came to mind. So then I’m thinking, well that can’t be right, what does he mean? I’m familiar with someone’s eyes glazing over when they are mentally too tired to process what is being explained to them. Somehow that didn’t quite fit either, although I’m definitely not understanding what is being explained here!

So I asked Doug what in the world is he talking about, and he looked at me like I was an idiot. He explained that “double glazing” windows was two panes of glass with a space between them. Oh now I understand! Here in the USA, Doug, we call those double paned windows! I am still wondering what “glazing” has to do with glass!

It’s amazing how many free lessons you can find on youtube.com! To be honest, I think I could spend days and days just watching the videos on youtube and stupidvideos.com! When the Internet first came out I really didn’t think that it was going to be this entertaining AND useful too!

I really wish that I had known about the memory foam dogs beds that are on today’s market a few years ago when our aging dog Rags was having a difficult time moving around due to old age. I’m sure that she was suffering from some type of arthritis and it broke our heart when in her last days with us that she would barely have the strength to get up to do her business by going out the doggy door that we installed just for that reason. If I had known about these orthopedic dog beds I certainly would have supplied Rags with one the moment she looked like she needed one.

These memory foam dog beds are a great idea for our four legged canine friends. If and when we get another dog I will make sure that we have one of these around when we need it. I know that memory foam beds do wonders for people so it only makes sense that our pets would benefit from all that they have to offer for them.
