Locker Issues

I have always enjoyed attending my niece’s and nephew’s school programs. Right now during the holidays there are several to attend through out. I always get a kick out of seeing today’s small lockers. Lockers have really gotten smaller these days, I have noticed. Heck our gym lockers seem bigger than these babies, even though my gym locker was a wood locker, which never made any sense to me since wood absorbs moisture and odors. And we all know how wet and smelly our gym clothes were at the end of a hard day of P.E.

One can only hope that they have replaced those old wooden gym lockers with steel lockers. I have never gone back to my Junior or my High School Locker Rooms, maybe one day I’ll venture in there and take a look and see, just out of curiosity sake. Actually one of my nephews will be attending my old High School in a couple of years, maybe I’ll just hold out and ask him when he gets there. We aren’t all that close but I try and talk with him when I have the chance. I don’t have a lot in common with a teen aged boy these days.

Do you remember graduating from kindergarten?

Posted on November 30th, 2011 by Jerry under Education and Personal Growth, Friends/Family, Life, Opinion, Parenting.

Sharon was telling the other women at work that she is planning to have a graduation party for the kindergarten class that her grandson is in. I had to suppress a chuckle, just the thought of making such a big deal about kids graduating from kindergarten seemed like a silly idea. But then I remembered when I graduated from kindergarten our school made a big ceremony out of it too. That got me wondering who in the world even came up with kindergarten graduation ideas in the first place? But when I stop and think about it, I realize that there aren’t enough celebrations in life and maybe we really do need to stop and celebrate the small victories like that. What do you think?

The Pick Up Artist

Posted on November 18th, 2011 by Jerry under Computers and/or Internet, Education and Personal Growth, Entertainment and Fun, Opinion, Technology and gadgets.

I had never really been into using those so called ever popular pickup lines when it came to the meeting and the dating of women. I usually just introduced myself to someone and took it from there. But I do know that there are a lot of people (men & women) alike who really do feel the need to come up with something cute or witty in order to make an impression on their targeted prospective mate. I know/knew so many guys who consider(ed) themselves to be a “top notch” pickup artist and totally get into the finding of the perfect thing(s) to say when trying to Attract Women in this crazy messed up world. They can be very entertaining to watch and listen to. The reactions of the women are sometimes even funnier then the so called pick up artist.

I have found an interesting website – puaforums.com that has a lot of information for people that are looking for a variety of ways to meet people and a good amount of interesting pickup lines to try out. Amazing what the Internet now brings to us, guess it makes sense but it did catch me by surprise, but made for some interesting and entertaining reading for a while last night while eating my dinner and before retiring for the evening. Give them a look-see sometime if you have the need or the want to. I’ll be checking back from time to time at puaforums.com to see what’s new in the pickup line area, not that I need to worry about any of that business any more. Married with children….

A remarkable age

When I was expecting our first child, I subscribed to a lot of magazines dedicated to helping parents learn to be good parents. I was really glad that we live in the day and age when so much good advice is so readily available on such an important subject. I remember when my younger brothers were born my parents were reading a book on parenting, and from what I understand it was written by a pediatrician, Doctor Benjamin Spock. I remember reading that when I was pregnant and was rather surprised at the advice that was given; much of that has changed in our generation!

Many of the articles were actually giving advice to the expecting parents about starting to plan out how they were paying for college. Although I still had my baby in my belly, I did read those articles with much interest.  Right about that same time, the personal computer business was just beginning. The option to perform an online scholarship search back then was not available, but by the time my children WERE old enough to be going to college, the Internet was up and running.

Many hours were spent online trying to find grants and scholarships when the time came. The Internet has opened up so many opportunities to the consumer, businessperson, and student. This truly is a remarkable age.

Interesting Facts About Titanium and Tungsten Rings

Posted on November 6th, 2011 by Jerry under Business, Computers and/or Internet, Education and Personal Growth, Friends/Family, Life, News, Opinion, Shopping, Technology and gadgets.

It looks like we are going to have another wedding to attend some time in the next couple of months or so. My cousin just announced his engagement via an email sent to the entire family last night. They have not set a permanent date as of yet, but they are shooting for an early spring wedding, the specific date to be announced at our family Thanksgiving dinner in two weeks.

Right now they are getting busy looking for either titanium rings or tungsten rings for the up and coming ceremony. They say that these types of rings are 100% hypoallergenic, which is important to the both of them since they both have allergies and issues with any other type of materials that most traditional rings are made of. Apparently these types of rings have only come about in the last decade or so. Up until then these materials were normally used in aerospace engineering, the medical field, as well as in aircraft manufacturing, but are now becoming very useful and popular in today’s jewelry stores. Pretty interesting and incredible stuff actually, I’m glad I took a few minutes and looked around online a bit earlier today and found a lot of good information on titanium and tungsten rings.
