Jerry Loggins Notes

Notes on life, family and friends by Jerry Loggins

One of the things that I try to avoid as much as possible is cleaning house. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy having a clean house, and I don’t even mind doing the work to get the house clean. The problem is that it is a never-ending, uncompensated, unappreciated job that only gets noticed when it is not done. One of my biggest complaints about cleaning house is that no one in this house even CARES about how dirty or messy it is. As many times as I remind people the old adage “A place for everything, and everything in its place” no one cares enough to bother to put things away.

Consequently no one can find anything when they need it, the house is cluttered, and the clutter makes cleaning very difficult. Sometimes I wonder just how soon the producers from “Hoarders” will be knocking on our door asking if they can come in and use our family for one of their episodes!

My wife used to keep the house spotless until we had children. Then all heck broke loose! Working full-time, taking college courses at night, and chasing toddlers around the house just wore her out. She realized that all of the people who claim that the working mothers can “have it all” meant that they can have all of the stress and none of the fun! She decided that she was just going to have to lower her standards and give up trying to keep the house neat and tidy. We tried hiring house cleaning services, but the clutter generators were so fast that the cleaning companies really weren’t able to get much cleaning done!

Now that I’ve found this website that will buy my uses DVDs, games, Blu-Rays and CDs, I am going to help my wife declutter this place as much as I can, and try to round up some of our old stuff and turn it into money! I like the idea of getting paid to clean our own house!

These difficult times

When Jason asked me to come with him to the appointment he had made for a free consultation bankruptcy next week I was surprised. I had no idea that he had been struggling that hard for so long. One of the things that surprised me the most about it was the fact that I keep hearing on the news that the economy is improving. How can the economy be improving if record numbers of people are being forced to file for bankruptcy? I think there must be something really wrong with the way the statisticians are judging the state of the economy!

It’s funny how things happen within the family, like all the trends, fashions, births, marriages, divorces, graduations, and all the other various events that come and go within our lifetime. They tend to come and go in waves. A good example is that this June we have had to attend six graduations for family members. Three were from High School, two were from college and the third was a cousin who went back to school via the Internet and they had a graduation party for everyone that finished those courses as well. All six were wonderful events, I’m so proud of each and everyone of the graduates and it will be interesting to see how these good folks fair from this moment on and where they end up in the near future.

The graduation announcements just seemed to keep pouring in this year. Funny thing is that these graduations will be the last that anyone in the family will attend for the next three years. That is when all of the kids that are in Junior High right now should be graduating High School. The key words here are “should be” but knowing some of the kids that are scheduled to graduate come 2015 and 2016 I wouldn’t bet any money on two of them to make it all the way to the end of high school. But only time will tell and stranger things have been known to happen.

So now that all of the graduations are done and over with, it will only be a couple more weeks until the family gets together for the 4th of July picnic that we all try so hard to attend. Hopefully the weather will be great, the food will be nice and hot and pray that the fireworks will start on time this year and it should all be good!

This summer’s Fun

The weather is starting to warm and that brings to mind that it is nearly vacation time. Every year we like to get away in order to have some family time. This year will be no different and we already have a place in mind. I was online looking for a place to go when I ran across a site about Myrtle Beach. It highlighted the opportunities we would have when we visited Myrtle Beach.

There is something about the beaches that attracts every member of the family. The children love building sandcastles and jumping in the water when it gets too hot. Mom loves the fact that she can lie on the beach and read a book while getting a tan. I like the fact that I can get good deals at the golf courses I play on. There are a lot of Myrtle Beach specials to take advantage of.

The best part about the whole situation is that there are many Myrtle Beach vacation deals to choose from. They have packages that fit nearly everyone’s budgets. I am sure that our family will be glad to take advantage of them. We are looking forward to this summer and anticipate we will all have a great time. It would be nice to see you’ll there too.

Buying a home

There are so many electric companies in Dallas, it’s hard to know who to go with. On one hand I like the idea of keeping my utilities as low as possible since we really stretched our budget to get this house. On the other hand, though, I also like the thought of going with the company I know has the best green standards and does the most for the environment.

Ever since I had the baby I’ve been really, really concerned about whether or not what I’m doing is good for the planet and I try really hard to be not only a responsible citizen but a good member of planet earth. That sounds so hippy! It’s like something my mom would have said back in the 70s. But you know, with so many big companies making so much pollution out there I feel like we each have to do what we can to try not to make the planet a worse place than we found it. I feel like I owe it to my daughter to give her a clean place to grow up and that’s going to be hard to do if we all don’t reduce our carbon footprints.

My husband drove a Hummer (a Hummer!) until he met me but thankfully in the last few years I’ve helped him see the error of his ways. He’s a good man but it’s hard not to get tied up in all the flashy things even when you know they’re not the best decision in terms of money spent on gas as well as for the planet. Anyway, we bought this house and I’m spending so much money on renovating with sustainable materials I feel like it’s silly if I don’t spend a little extra to go with the electricity company that does right by the environment, you know? I guess I’ll have to bite the bullet and put my money where my mouth is!
