Our son is graduating from Princeton in a few months.  What a great experience it has been for him.  We are so thankful for all of the great financial aid opportunities that allowed him to go to such a great school!  Now he is looking at employment after graduation.  One of the opportunities he has been offered is as a consultant in London with a firm that works with packaging manufacturers to help them to “green-up” their companies.

He was saying that in addition to redesigning packaging, his hope is to help to minimize the impact of the waste products, and minimize fuel consumption.  There is so much involved in making packaging that it is really a field of many opportunities for improvement!  And let’s face it, it is almost impossible nowadays to buy anything that isn’t packaged in some way.  From food to toys to medicines to tools, almost everything comes in some kind of box or plastic container.  I’ve heard that there has been some movement towards using plastic made from cornstarch that is biodegradable!  Isn’t that incredible!

He has a great interest in environmental engineering, and he thinks that this would be a great way to make a difference in the world.  His mother and I are so proud of him!  We’ll really miss him if he does in fact go out of the country, but we think that it’s the opportunity of a lifetime!  And quite frankly, if either one of us had been given a great job opportunity like that when we were his age, we would have jumped on it with both feet!

In addition, his mother has many relatives that live in London, and we are sure that each and every one of them would jump at the opportunity to meet him, and show him around the country.  I almost envy his opportunity!  This is not the only offer he has received, however.  He has had other great offers as well.  I don’t know all the details, but am very interested in learning about them!

My wife has been telling me that there have been a lot of times recently at work where there have been customers that did not speak English very well.  It has been a very long time since she took Spanish in junior high school (I won’t say HOW long ago, but let’s face it, she’s no longer a spring chicken!  More like a stewing hen!)  Heh Heh!  Oops, what’s that dear?  Never mind, a private joke!

Anyway, I just went online to look for some small electronic translators that I could get for her to take with her to work.  I actually found some very reasonably priced – under $20!  I ordered two of them.  I”m looking forward to them arriving.  I want to see how well they work!

One of our nieces had a baby right before Christmas.  A beautiful, healthy baby girl.  It’s hard to realize that she’s two months old already!  Before you know it we are going to have to worry about baby proofing our house for the many visits we will be getting from them.  It just seems like a few days ago that we put away our old baby gates!  Funny how life sneaks up on you that way.  All of our kids are grown up now, and some are having kids of their own.  I’m not sure I’m ready for a newest generation!  I don’t feel old enough to be worrying about the newest child safety tips - I was just starting to get used to (and enjoying) knowing that the kids were past that point in life!

Ahh… the circle of life.  I think maybe we should just suggest that we go visit them at their house instead, so we don’t have to go all nuts and fortify our house with all the newest safety equipment!  Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see them, but if we go to them, then they are the ones who have to make sure the baby is safe.  And, we can decide when the visit is over and leave to come home when the baby is cranky!  I think I’ll suggest that to my wife!

My wife has been buying some more dangling earrings lately, and has run out of places to store them. She’s been looking at buying a new earring tree, but can’t seem to find any that she likes. And they are wicked expensive to boot! So I decided I’d try to help her out and do a little bit of looking around about a quick, cheap and easy way to make her something that she might be able to use. I found a website about instructions on how to make things, and found some suggestions about just taking an inexpensive splatter pan, bend the handle, and put the earrings in the mesh holes! I think that is absolute genius! I know we have at least one unused splatter pan around here! Now to figure out where to put it – that is going to be the real challenge! I’m thinking about just not even bending the handle, and just put a hook in the wall behind the bedroom door. I think that will work out just fine, don’t you?

Recently I decided that I’d like to be able to find a provider of unlimited mobile broadband.  At least, that’s what I think it’s called!  I’d like for my wife to be able to take her laptop and connect to the Internet anywhere she goes.  And I’d like for her to not be charged any extra fees for anything.  I see most of the providers restrict you to a certain number of “data” downloads, and that is not what I’m looking for.  I want unlimited!  Why is that so hard to find?  From what I’m seeing, only Alltell has that unlimited plan, and they have been sold to Verizon, so that unlimited plan is probably going to be eliminated pretty quickly, if it hasn’t been already!  If I can’t find a plan that we can afford, I’ll just have to tell my wife that she is going to just have to keep looking for free Wifi hotspots around town.  I understand that gets real old real fast, but I’m not willing to pay an arm and a leg for Internet on the road!
