Was he hearing voices in his head?

Posted on September 2nd, 2010 by Jerry under Life, News.

The recent hostage taking at the Discovery Channel Headquarters has me completely stumped.  I understand that the perpetrator was killed by the police.  And that he was upset with the programming.  Seems a little bit drastic to me, to go into a building and hold folks hostage at gunpoint.  I wonder if this guy was hearing voices in his head.

Weight loss shots

Posted on September 2nd, 2010 by Jerry under Computers and/or Internet, Education and Personal Growth, Health, Life.

Have you heard about HCG for weight loss? I never had until I saw an advertisement for HCG shots Austin on another blogger’s website. I started to read about HCG, to find out what it is. Apparently it is a human hormone that is produced during pregnancy.  I don’t know if I would even be willing to try something like that to lose weight.  What do you think?  Would you?

Christmas decorations

Posted on August 31st, 2010 by Jerry under Entertainment and Fun, Home and garden, Life.

I have to say that my wife’s favorite time of year is Christmas.  She seems to be planning for Christmas all year long.  She loves to make ornaments as gifts for her friends and relatives to put on their Christmas Trees.  Some years she will knit a lot of ornaments, some years they are crochet, sometimes she crafts them out of beads, or empty paper towel tubes.  One year she made some little fairies out of artificial poinsettia flowers and pipe cleaners to put on the trees.  Another year she painted burnt out light bulbs and made them look like beautiful Victorian ornaments.  And yet another she painted frozen orange juice lids to look like snowman faces!

My wife never ceases to amaze me with her creativity.  She has made so many ornaments for our own house that we have had to put up three Artificial Christmas Trees in our own house just to display all of the ornaments she has made!  And of course, we have to have one that also has ornaments that were given to us by other people, or that we bought because we liked them ourselves.

Even so, we seem to be having trouble finding enough space for all of the ornaments.  So we’ve started hanging them on wreaths and garlands that we use to decorate around the house.

And in preparation for future Christmases, we do a lot of bargain shopping in January to pick up Christmas clearance items.  Last January we got a great price on several White Christmas Trees that were on clearance.  We are thinking about putting them up on the front porch and decorating them with weatherproof ornaments.  She’s thinking about ways to create those weather proof ornaments out of recycled materials, such as colorful bottle caps and soda can pop tops.

One key fits all

Posted on August 28th, 2010 by Jerry under Home and garden, Life, Shopping.

One of the first things that my wife and I decided to do when we bought this house was to replace all of the exterior door locks with sets that all used the same key.  We did not want to have to try to remember which key opened which door.  All of our key-chains were already over crowded with vehicle keys and store loyalty cards.  Life sure is simpler when you only have to use one key to open it all!

A little help

Posted on August 26th, 2010 by Jerry under Computers and/or Internet, Education and Personal Growth, Life, Technology and gadgets.

Pre Algebra was a fun class for me to take when I was in school.  I was blessed with the ability to grasp the concepts behind Algebra equations and  fractions.  I do give all of the credit, though, to Miss Beck, our math teacher.  She used really fun real-life examples whenever possible to demonstrate the reasons we needed to learn these things.  I can remember when she brought in a large sheet cake to demonstrate how to divide.  We all had cake to eat at the end of class!

Not everyone can have a math teacher as wonderful as Miss Beck, however. That’s why it is a great help to be able to find tutoring services over the Internet.  You can easily go online at your own convenience and find the help you need on whatever math subject you are struggling with.  Obviously that’s not as much fun as having Miss Beck serve up cake at the end of class, but some things just can’t be helped!

Ellen

Ellen is my absolute favorite talk show host. She is hilarious and very energetic. I’m shocked at how she can get wonderful talent on her show almost every day. One of my favorite episodes is where she had some of the stars from Twilight come on and they talked about the release of the latest film. She comes up with the wittiest things to say to the stars and even they are laughing the entire time. I’m usually not home when the show is on but occasionally I’ll get home early and flip and enjoy the cable tv dealI just got to at least catch a small part of it. She’s always dancing or doing something crazy with the talent and she doesn’t seem like she’s afraid to try anything. She recently showed off her dancing skills when she did a special show about the ‘So You Think You Can Dance‘ competition. I must say she has better skills than I thought she had when it comes to dancing but I think she should stick to being a talk show host instead of a contestant. I’m not sure if she writes her own material because it’s so fresh and funny every day but to say what she does at a moment’s notice I suppose she just has to be that clever. I wish I had stage presence like Ellen but I can stick to watching.

The Local Elks Lodge

Posted on August 18th, 2010 by Jerry under Business, Education and Personal Growth, Life, Politics.

I have several friends that belong to the local Elks lodge in town and they have been trying for years to get me to join and become a full time member of their lodge. They are holding a meeting tonight and I have been asked to come and see what they are all about. Guess I’ll go, just won’t make any commitments just yet.

Oh My Aching Back

Posted on August 18th, 2010 by Jerry under Health, Life, Opinion, Shopping.

For the past couple of months I have been waking up with the most horrible back ache. It stays with me most of the day and no over the counter pain relievers have been even taking the edge of it. I’m assuming that it is due to my old mattress. I couldn’t even tell you how old it is, but I’m sure that I’m due for a new one. One that will take away this horrible backache, or at least I’m hope so.
