Surprising Price Difference

Posted on November 15th, 2011 by Jerry under Food, Friends/Family, Life, Money and Finances, Shopping.

Recently a new Harris Teeter store opened up in town.  Everyone’s been raving about how they offer double coupons – even sometimes triple coupons!  And if you sign up for their VIC card you will get coupons in the mail for $10 off a $40 purchase.  So I went ahead and started shopping there.  I have to say that although in general the store is impressive, I was disappointed in their limited supply of some of the products that my family buys a lot of – for example their selection of jams and jellies was very small.  And the mini-baby bel cheeses that my wife loves to eat cost twice as much as Harris Teeter than at Wal-Mart!  I guess we will have to be very consumer savvy and make sure we know exactly what is a good price and what isn’t a good price!

Good Old Fashioned Rain Harvesting

Posted on November 14th, 2011 by Jerry under Business, Computers and/or Internet, Food, Green Issues, Home and garden, Money and Finances, Opinion, Weather Issues.

It really does my heart good to see that more people are turning to and relying on good old fashioned rain harvestings during these past few years of drought like conditions that we’ve been dealing with. Many people pay dearly for water services and some folks get theirs from their well, either way it takes money to get our much needed water supply to us that we depend on each and every day, while mother nature provides us water that just takes something like a rain barrel to collect to use.

My father used to always have a rain water barrel that he used for our small garden that we all worked so hard in year after year for our home grown fruits and vegetables that my mother loved cooking with. That made a big impression on us for years to come about rain harvesting.

I’m hearing that there are now more rain water barrels are being sold than ever before. Did you know you can find many rain barrels for sale right online at sites like simplyrainbarrels.com has to offer? They have a very large variety of  sizes, colors and shapes as well as various price ranges. What I really like is that simplyrainbarrels.com accepts PayPal, I’ve put an end to my credit cards and rely on my PayPal account more and more for online purchases such as this.

Getting Shorted

Posted on November 14th, 2011 by Jerry under Business, Friends/Family, Life, Money and Finances.

My wife discovered that her paycheck was short about $130 this week. What an aggravation! She only gets paid every other week, and she has to wait until tomorrow to contact the payroll department to try to get it sorted out, and then she will have to wait two weeks to get her money! This holiday season is not the time to find your paycheck has been shorted! We were counting on that money to help pay a bill that is due before her next paycheck! What a pain in the neck!

When I was expecting our first child, I subscribed to a lot of magazines dedicated to helping parents learn to be good parents. I was really glad that we live in the day and age when so much good advice is so readily available on such an important subject. I remember when my younger brothers were born my parents were reading a book on parenting, and from what I understand it was written by a pediatrician, Doctor Benjamin Spock. I remember reading that when I was pregnant and was rather surprised at the advice that was given; much of that has changed in our generation!

Many of the articles were actually giving advice to the expecting parents about starting to plan out how they were paying for college. Although I still had my baby in my belly, I did read those articles with much interest.  Right about that same time, the personal computer business was just beginning. The option to perform an online scholarship search back then was not available, but by the time my children WERE old enough to be going to college, the Internet was up and running.

Many hours were spent online trying to find grants and scholarships when the time came. The Internet has opened up so many opportunities to the consumer, businessperson, and student. This truly is a remarkable age.

Credit Repair Issues

Posted on November 12th, 2011 by Jerry under Business, Computers and/or Internet, Life, Money and Finances, Opinion, Technology and gadgets.

The economy has made life a challenge for so many of us. Can you imagine living as a senior citizen, on a fixed and very limited income and having to deal with Credit Repair issues as well. To fix your credit, it takes time and a lot of concentration and paperwork galore, something that a lot of senior are lacking in their what was supposed to be their “golden years.” It is good to know that the Internet has made task such as this an easier chore to handle. And a good thing that more of the elderly generation are learning how to use the Internet these days.

I have a friend who volunteers his time to go into senior citizen centers and help with their Internet skills and assists them with some of the tasks that they are trying to accomplish online. He tells me that Credit Repair is a major concern with a lot of the seniors that he meets. They have worked hard all of their lives, and have struggled to keep their credit scores acceptable and that they are blown away with the prospect of being put in the position that they now have to worry about how to improve credit scores at this point and time during their lives.

The Best Credit Repair Service found at Creditrepairinfo.com is one resource that they buddy recommends to them. He went through the credit repair process with them and is happy with the way things turned out and is willing to pass the good word along to anyone willing to listen. After all, word of mouth is still an important and necessary form of advertising.
