I’ve been hearing a lot of people talking lately about how bed bugs are becoming a big problem for homeowners. There have been articles in the newspapers about how easy it is to bring bed bugs and cock roaches home from innocent-appearing places like the grocery store (in bags) and movie theaters (from the upholstery in the theater seats!) Just reading about these kinds of infestations makes me want to give my entire house a good top to bottom cleaning, including carpet cleaning raleigh with a steam cleaner. From what I understand, steam cleaning is the best way to kill pests like that.

Five Hour Energy

My son drinks those Five Hour Energy drinks, and it worries me. I’ve heard on the news that these energy drinks are not healthy for people at all. In fact I’ve heard that they are down-right dangerous. My wife keeps reassuring me that they are no worse for a person than drinking one cup of coffee, but I find that hard to believe. I’ve asked my son why he doesn’t just drink a cup of coffee if that is all it basically is. His reply is “I don’t like coffee, or tea, and I’m not supposed to drink a soda in front of my clients, so I drink these instead if I need a ‘pick-me-up.’” What do you think of these energy drinks?

Another aftershock

This morning when I got up I saw on the news feed on my computer that another aftershock had occurred around 11:30 pm last night. I was really surprised to read that because I was awake and watching television at the time and I did not hear or see anything to make me think that we were experiencing any aftershocks. I’m glad that I didn’t feel anything though because earthquakes make me very nervous Ever since I saw the movie “Earthquake” I have been more afraid of earthquakes than most people are. That’s one reason why I avoid watching any kind of horror show – they add fuel to my fears. I’m better off just not even being given a hint of horror.

Heartbreaking story

A few days ago a tragedy occurred in Florida. I’m certain that you would have heard about it. The young black man gunned down by a “Neighborhood Watch” citizen. The young black man, only seventeen years old, walking with a bag of candy and a soda. Chased down and beaten up by a guy who decided to play vigilante. The young black man crying out for help and being beaten and then shot to death by this vigilante. The local police department trying to cover up the story and blame the victim. Even if they do arrest and convict the vigilante the horror of this young man’s death breaks my heart. I can only imagine the grief that his family is going through. No one should have to die like that. You are supposed to die peacefully in your sleep when you are very old. Not chased down and fighting for your life and then shot to death. These are the kinds of things that make me sick to my stomach and ashamed of the hatred and bigotry that continue to thrive in our country.

I just saw that this video has gone viral, and it deeply disturbs me. The video is about a female student totally flipping out in a college class for no apparent reason. She ends up assaulting people, threatening to kill people, and it really is a scary video to watch in so many ways. It makes me wonder if she had some kind of medical or mental disorder. And it makes me wonder just how safe our children really are “out there” in college. I hope that this student gets some medical attention; it certainly looks like she needs it!
