Baby was offered for sale on E-Bay

The news that grabbed my attention this week was the story about a German couple who placed an ad on E-Bay, offering their baby for sale! The couple now claims it was a “joke” but the baby has been placed in protective custody. The ad was only on “the air” for two hours before Ebay removed the ad, and no offers had been placed during those two hours. When Ebay removed the ad they assisted the police track down the couple. The ad claimed that the baby was being sold because it was “too loud.”

I have to say that this is another case where I think these people are NUTS! I’m glad that the baby was placed in protective custody and I hope the parents never get it back! And I hope that the parents are locked up for a very long time. This is a case when I think that the courts out to have the right to force sterilization on people, because in my own opinion people like this should never be allowed to have children again!

Truth please

I’ve been reading, and watching articles about the lions mane jellyfish that was responsible for stinging a lot of people in New Hampshire this past week. There are so many conflicting reports about that simple incident that it makes me wonder what is the truth of it all. Some reports say that the jellyfish was angry and stinging people. Others say that most of the people were stung after it was ashore and already dead. If it’s already dead, how angry can it be? Some reports say it washed ashore, others say that the life guards brought it ashore.

If our reporters can’t report the actual truth about something this mundane, how can we expect the truth about really important political issues?

Preacher’s and Their Bloopers

Was watching a show last night that was all about catching people on video. The funniest one, that just had me rolling, was of a newly hired Preacher who had a church full of his Youth Group, along with their parents and other folks as well. It was a full house (church). I found the video on YouTube.com along with several other Preacher Bloopers and just had to share a couple with you.

Little rooms

After checking my email this morning, my browser defaulted to a webpage that featured a story about tiny hotel rooms, complete with photos. Some of the rooms were so tiny that I am sure that I would get claustrophobic trying to sleep in one! One featured platform beds in some renovated drain pipes. That’s a novel idea indeed, but it only had a bed in it! What about temperature control? One of the hotels was in an airport and had no bathroom, saying that the customer could use the restrooms in the airport. I guess those folks aren’t supposed to need a shower or bath! And I had heard about the Japanese hotels where the rooms are only slightly bigger than a casket; this article had photographs of the rooms. Those rooms put me in mind of a sleeping berth in a sleeper car in a train.

Well, those are all novel ideas, but I’ll tell you this – give me a standard hotel room, complete with fancy bedroom sets that include a dresser and night stands, and a real bathroom with a shower in it! When I travel, I need room to stretch, and I don’t want to have to wait in line with a with a bunch of strangers to use a bathroom in the middle of the night!

Crime Inc

I just finished watching a television show called Crime Inc. This episode was about the subject of counterfeiting. I found the subject very interesting, and the content quite scary. I can’t imagine buying a knock-off purse and then finding out later that the purse had unsafe levels of lead in it! Good grief!

And counterfeit drugs? People are actually naive enough to buy prescriptions online, thinking that they are getting the real thing? That can be so dangerous! The show had a small segment about a man and his wife that went for botox treatments and got counterfeit botox injections and almost died! Yikes! And now they are visually scarred for life! Scary stuff!

Risy business

Do you remember all of the big hullabaloo that happened when diet pills with ephedra were banned a few years ago? Apparently even though these products helped people to lose weight, it increased the risk of strokes and heart attacks to a dangerous degree. And yet people still try to buy it illegally! I wouldn’t be surprised, though, if what people think is ephedra is really a counterfeit drug that is nothing but ground up drywall.

Mother Nature

Mother Nature is up to her old tricks once again. The news is full of the 4.4 earthquake that rocked California once again. The world’s gone crazy, you never know what you will be hearing on the morning news each morning any more. I’m glad that where I live doesn’t have a lot of extreme weather issues like the rest of the world is experiencing!

Snow, Snow and More Snow

We still have places with snow from the storm we had before Christmas. That was a real kicker. But this time around I think we are really in for it. The weather channel is telling us to expect between 2 to 4 feet of snow in the next day or so and plus another storm is heading this way come next Wednesday. I’m so ready for spring!

Rod Stewart

Rod Stewart has been around a very long time and seems to be trying to make a come back. He is making appearances on all of the talk shows and I believe he has his own show going on in Vegas. It is too bad that he is so tired of singing all of his old songs that were such a hit, I’m afraid that is what his fans want to hear. Alas he is trying some new ones on for size. Maggie May will always be a favorite of mine.

Terrible earthquake

My heart goes out to the victims of the big earthquake in Haiti! So many people killed – the capital completely demolished! It is hard to imagine such pain and sorrow. It is heartening, however to see how many countries are getting involved in sending rescue and relief. Kudos to the International community for their humanitarian efforts. Haiti has had a lot of troubles, that is for sure!

Perfect snowman snow

I have to say that it has been a very long time since I’ve built a snowman. We just don’t get very much snow around here! Over the past several years I’ve seen other people’s attempts to make snowmen from the snow that we do get and it is rather sad to see because the snow is heavily dotted with twigs and grass clippings and just plain dirt scraped up from the ground.

Yesterday I went out to clear off the deck so the dogs could go in and out as needed through their doggie door. The temptation to build a snowman was intense. I picked up a handful of snow and it packed so nicely! I put it down on the snow and rolled it a little and before you knew it I had a snowman’s head in my hands. I gently put it down in the snow and looked at it for a minute. If I had the rest of the snowman’s accessories close at hand (nose, eyes, pipe) I’d have myself a really great snowman! But I don’t have anything I can reasonably use as eyes, so I just abandoned the idea. Maybe I’ll come across something over the next day or so that I can use. I don’t think that snow is going anywhere very soon! We sure got a lot of it!

What was he thinking?

I was watching the news this morning and saw a story about a big snowball fight that was held in DC yesterday. Apparently it was an organized thing and it was being held by adults. Everyone was having a great time – it is unusual to have this much snow around here! So why not celebrate with a good old-fashioned snowball fight? Well, aside from the fact that I don’t enjoy snowball fights I think that if that is something you’d enjoy, well then have at it!

Well, a stray snowball hit some guy’s Hummer. The guy was inside the Hummer. Obviously not a voluntary participant in the melee! He was really angry that a snowball hit his Hummer and he drew a gun and started waving it around. Police were called. The driver of the Hummer was struck in the head by another snowball (I guess payback for being such a killjoy!) When all was said and done it turns out that the guy with the gun was an off-duty plain clothes detective. The police department tried to claim that he didn’t draw his gun, but there was a video made of the entire thing and there is no doubt that he had a gun out! Now he is on desk duty.

So tell me, what was he thinking, jumping out of his Hummer and waving a gun around over a simple stupid snowball? Get a sense of humor dude!

Prices

I can remember learning in college that prices of things were largely due to supply and demand, and competition. In this crazy economy, prices just are not making a lot of sense. For example, when there are a lot of people flying places the prices go up because the demand is high. So the airlines, for example, raise their prices during holiday travel time because the demand is high.

And yet, I heard on the news this week that the airlines are struggling because demand is lower because fewer people are flying. And because of that they are raising their prices again. That just does not make a whole lot of sense to me. If people are not flying because it is too expensive, then raising the prices is not going to fix that problem, is it?

VT sure has been having their troubles

I have been very saddened by the troubles that seem to be plaguing the students of Virginia Tech! The latest trouble is a missing young lady who appears to have been abducted. When the news first hit and the police were saying that she did not have her identification or cell phone I just assumed that meant that they found her purse somewhere – like lying in a parking lot. Turns out this morning that I was right. I hope that the parking lot had security cameras that recorded what happened and that leads to her safe return to her parent. What a terrible nightmare! How can parents even let their kids out of their sight anymore? It’s a scary world out there!

I can’t believe that they let him go

I was so very disappointed that Scotland let that terrorist bomber free for “humanitarian” reasons. They guy bombed a plane that killed hundreds of people! I think that letting him out of jail because he is dying of cancer is a huge mistake. I think that he is going to simply become a suicide bomber now. After all, what has he got to lose? Not much! And what does he have to gain? His martyrdom and all those virgins in “heaven.” I think that letting him go was a HUGE mistake!
