I really wish that I had known about the memory foam dogs beds that are on today’s market a few years ago when our aging dog Rags was having a difficult time moving around due to old age. I’m sure that she was suffering from some type of arthritis and it broke our heart when in her last days with us that she would barely have the strength to get up to do her business by going out the doggy door that we installed just for that reason. If I had known about these orthopedic dog beds I certainly would have supplied Rags with one the moment she looked like she needed one.

These memory foam dog beds are a great idea for our four legged canine friends. If and when we get another dog I will make sure that we have one of these around when we need it. I know that memory foam beds do wonders for people so it only makes sense that our pets would benefit from all that they have to offer for them.

The weathermen were predicting a winter storm for last night, and for once the weatherman was correct. It DID snow. Just a little bit, but when we got up this morning there definitely was a little bit of the white stuff on the ground. Not so much that it completely covered the green grass; we could still see blades of grass coming up over the top of the snow. But, you could make a snowman if you wished to do so.

Knowing how crazy this area gets when it snows a little bit, I was really glad that no one in the family needed to leave the house for anything. Being the weekend, no one had to go to work. So if it has to snow, this was good timing. Of course the school children would have preferred to have a snow day from school, but the parents are relieved that they don’t have to scramble to get back-up babysitters for the snow day. Thank you Jack Frost, for the weekend timing of the storm.

One of the things that I enjoy about playing the lottery is that you never know what you are going to get. Are you going to win a few dollars? A lot of dollars? Will it be a bust? The suspense is what I enjoy about it, and if I win something that is a great feeling! That is one of the feelings that I get when I go to the nomorerack website. I never go when I go onto the nomorerack.com site what great offers are going to be there to grab up, and whether there will be an insanity deal waiting for me to claim.

So far I have not timed my visits to the website right for grabbing an insanity deal, but I have purchased a few of the items that the website sells at outrageously low prices. In some ways, this new website has put a little bit of fun into shopping that I haven’t had outside of going to an auction house. To be perfectly honest, I don’t know how long this website has been online, but I have a feeling that it will be a success for many years to come.

In addition to selling various products such as handbags and jewelry, the website also sells travel packages and electronics. I was looking through the section that they call “Insanity Deals” and saw that they had sold some really expensive electronic products for some really crazy low prices. There is no way possible that anyone made any kind of profit from those “insanity deals.” Not being an expert on marketing, I would imagine that those products are what are sometimes referred to as “loss leaders” by the big chain stores – products priced so low that the sale actually loses money, but the hope is that while customers are in the store that they will find something else that they really like and spend money buying the other items.

Not the old illegal “bait and switch” routine, more like the “while you’re here looking around, maybe you’d be interested in buying some of this other stuff” type of marketing.

Did you watch the series premier of The Lost Girl the other night? I was relaxing in the living room and my wife came in and turned on the television to watch it. I grumbled because I thought that the title of the show sounded like some “girly show” that I would not enjoy watching. And the opening scene started off fairly slow, like a tired old repeat of Law and Order, where a schmuck is trying to date rape an unsuspecting pretty girl. Well, before you know it the would-be rapist is being drained of his energy through some kind of energy sucking going on through a major french kiss!

My attention was quickly grabbed, and I watched the entire show. The pace picked up with a few little twists and turns, and now when my wife says she wants to watch it again, I will not complain the next time!

My wife is a packrat. Not as bad as the television show “The Hoarders” but there are a lot of items filling up our storage space in the basement. From time to time I tell her that it bothers me that the space is so full, but she just reminds me that she doesn’t have the time or energy to organize it any better than it is. She claims that she has organized it (she has) and other people (meaning me) go down there and move things around and mess it up. (Yes, she’s right) and she’s tired of swimming upstream.

Well, when my mother took ill and we needed to take care of her for a couple of weeks last fall, the old baby monitors that we used when our kids were babies were quickly located (from their spot in the basement) and put to good use for us to be able to keep an ear out for Mom’s calls when she needed something. I have to admit, my wife did good this time.

My mother is moving to a new townhouse next month. She’s renting it with the option to buy. The townhouse is in pretty good shape, but she wants to personalize it by installing one of the many Classic Mailboxes on the market today. One of her hobbies is decorative painting, so she is thinking about buying one of the Gaines Mailboxes and painting the raised areas with some really bright colors.

It seems to me, though, that she could really go wild on one of the Keystone Mailboxes. Painting one of those would be really eye catching! Whatever she decides, I’m sure it will be gorgeous. Sue has such a great eye and talent that everything she touches looks great! When we first moved into this house, Sue gave us a gorgeous hand-painted bread box for our new kitchen, which we have receive so many compliments on throughout the years. Too bad I didn’t take after my mother, a very talented artist indeed.

Thanks for the guest post by Donn Schroeder

Using one service provider for our internet service and cable has made my life a lot easier. I recently switched to a bundle deal with a new company because I was having trouble with my last cable company. I could never get a hold of anyone or work my way through the phone tree. I would often find mistakes in my bill and it would take me thirty minutes to get everything straightened out on the phone. Sometimes things didn’t get straightened out and I would end up having to call again! I was spending at least an hour a month talking to the cable company on the phone. Now since I have bundled with a new company, I can pay my bill on-line for both services. The service is not spotty and I actually ended up saving a pretty good bit of money. The best part about my new service is that I don’t have to get on the phone every single month to correct my cable bill. My internet speed is actually must faster than it was before too, so I can stream internet movies and watch videos on YouTube. I wish that I had thought of this sooner!

Today my wife and I went to the local Staples store so we could take a look at the two e-readers that are the ones most widely publicized. We both got Amazon.com gift cards as Christmas gifts, and we were thinking about using them to buy a Kindle, but we wanted to make sure that we liked the Kindle better than a Nook. After all, they seem to be the same price range. The sales person tried to convince us to buy the new Kindle Fire, but we decided on the Kindle Touch Wi-Fi, and went home and ordered it online so we could use the gift cards. We only had enough money on the gift cards to buy one Kindle, so I guess we will have to share the Kindle for a while under we can afford a second one. I don’t know, maybe our second e-reader will be a Nook!

During Christmas dinner we all got to know my kid sister’s fiance Jack a bit better. They have been engaged for 6 months now and we really haven’t gotten a chance to meet with them since then. They are not planning on getting married any time soon, not in any hurry, which is a good thing.

Jack is an enrolled agent cpe and has been for almost 5 years, he comes from a well established family from Massachusetts, which makes him a Yankee, but we are trying not to hold that against him LOL! He is now concentrating on his required enrolled agent continuing education, which can be done right online these days, so that he can continue working in that position and save enough money for the big wedding that my sis has always dreamed of and I’m sure that will cost us all a good chunk of change in the long run.

They make a cute couple, it was a nice relaxed Christmas this year. Now on with the New Year’s festivities.

Most of the people in our family are finding it more difficult to make their paychecks stretch as far as they need to stretch, so we greatly reduced the gift giving this year. We decorated the house, and had a nice dinner, and played a few games. Thankfully everyone was in a good mood and the house was full of laughter and good camaraderie. All in all, it was a good visit, even if there hardly any material gifts involved.

I’ve been thinking that a nice Christmas gift for the wife would be a get-a-way at one of the nicer Oceanfront Myrtle Beach Resorts come summer. We are expecting a nice tax refund check this up and coming spring, and I can’t think of a better way to spend it than the two of us spending a long weekend at Myrtle Beach, soaking up the sun on the beach and on the golf course. Many of the Myrtle Beach Resorts offer golf packages that seem right nice and affordable.

We haven’t gotten away, just the two of us in so long. I think it would be a good thing for us both. I’m banking on using the Internet and Googling “Beach Resorts Myrtle Beach” and seeing what I can come up with on such short notice. With such horrible weather conditions outside today it seems that it would be a good way to spend the day looking around online.

We will see what I can come up with, maybe print off some of the information that I find and put it in an envelope and put it under the tree for her on Christmas morning. That should be a smile on her face and when she is happy, I’m happy as well!

When I was a kid, I took riding lessons using english horse tack. I wasn’t given a choice, that is what I was taught. I remember wanting to ride western, but that was not an option. At first I thought it was awkward, not having a big old horn on the saddle to hang onto, but I got used to it. After a while I found myself preferring using it. I felt as if I had better control of the horse, gripping with my knees. Seems to me that when I would ride western after that I simply felt terrible. No one ever explained to me the right way to ride western, so I always felt like I was going to fall out of the saddle – the leather was too stiff for me to grip with my knees.

How can it be that every minute seems like an eternity, yet the days and years fly by like the blink of an eye? Perhaps it is because we take on more tasks to do than we have time, and you are so busy trying to keep on top of everything that even though you long to rest your weary head, you keep going as fast and as hard as you can go. Realizing that if you fall behind in your chores that there will be the dickens to pay. How did we allow ourselves to get into this situation? Life has turned into a juggling act, and dropping a ball is not an option anymore. The holidays are approaching and we are not ready for them. Now is the time to shift into high gear, but the truth is that all I really want to do is go to bed and pull the covers over my head. Decorating the lawn will be left undone this year. I need to slow down and eliminate some of the items on my list. I think a low-key holiday season is in order.

Have you ever heard of a website called Moolala.com? Me neither, until a friend of mine sent me a message about how one of the agencies that she does business with (Triangle Direct) had done a deal with Moolala that they would provide matching funds for every coupon sold to raise money to stop child trafficking. It does my heart good to hear of companies trying to do the socially responsible thing. Kudos to both Moolala and Triangle Direct!

Over the past couple of months I’ve noticed more and more people on Facebook posting comments that appear to be political rabble-rousing. When I was younger I really never realized just how dirty and nasty people would get over politics! What astonishes me about this on Facebook is the fact that these people are supposedly “friends” with each other but they are slinging lies around like crazy. It makes me wonder if these people are just trying to upset other people because they think it is fun to upset other people, or if they really believe the lies that they are repeating. Are these folks really that ignorant? It scares me to think that these people might actually vote!
