How would you feel if your father started to smoke Black and Mild cigars? I was really surprised when we dropped by his house to find him smoking a cigar. I’ve never seen him smoke anything in his life! You could have knocked me over with a feather when I saw that! He told me that it was a gift from one of the guys at work, celebrating his new baby boy, and he decided to give it a try. Right about then Mom came home and chased him out of the house, telling him that she would not allow anyone to smoke anything in the house and she didn’t care WHO he was! Then she ran around the house waving a kitchen towel around, turning on the exhaust fans and opening the windows to get the smoke out of the house. Our dog Spooky, excited by all of the action and noise chased her around the house barking like crazy! I laughed until my sides ached!

The weathermen were predicting a winter storm for last night, and for once the weatherman was correct. It DID snow. Just a little bit, but when we got up this morning there definitely was a little bit of the white stuff on the ground. Not so much that it completely covered the green grass; we could still see blades of grass coming up over the top of the snow. But, you could make a snowman if you wished to do so.
Knowing how crazy this area gets when it snows a little bit, I was really glad that no one in the family needed to leave the house for anything. Being the weekend, no one had to go to work. So if it has to snow, this was good timing. Of course the school children would have preferred to have a snow day from school, but the parents are relieved that they don’t have to scramble to get back-up babysitters for the snow day. Thank you Jack Frost, for the weekend timing of the storm.

How can it be that every minute seems like an eternity, yet the days and years fly by like the blink of an eye? Perhaps it is because we take on more tasks to do than we have time, and you are so busy trying to keep on top of everything that even though you long to rest your weary head, you keep going as fast and as hard as you can go. Realizing that if you fall behind in your chores that there will be the dickens to pay. How did we allow ourselves to get into this situation? Life has turned into a juggling act, and dropping a ball is not an option anymore. The holidays are approaching and we are not ready for them. Now is the time to shift into high gear, but the truth is that all I really want to do is go to bed and pull the covers over my head. Decorating the lawn will be left undone this year. I need to slow down and eliminate some of the items on my list. I think a low-key holiday season is in order.

Have not been getting much done these past couple of days. One of our dogs, Bilbo, has gone missing and the whole family has been effected by this loss; not a happy home right now. There is never a good time for something like this to happen, but there is certainly a worst time and right before the Christmas holiday has got to be one of the worst times. There is so much that needs to be done every day in order to make Christmas as special and run as smoothly as possible for such a large family as ours. Usually all of this is done with a type of holiday spirit that keeps us all in a good mood, no matter how hard or time consuming these yearly tasks are, but there doesn’t seem to be any bit of this spirit with us right now and Christmas day is only 12 days away.
We have been calling the local pound every day. Been combing the neighborhood several times a day, knocking on doors asking everyone we see on the streets, not a word from anyone. We even did some Lost Dog flyer printing efforts, had over 50 Color Copies of this flyers printed using SuperFinePrinting and we spent a whole afternoon tacking them up all over and showing to whom ever we came into contact with. Still no word.
With each passing day, the odds are greater that Bilbo won’t be returning home, but there is always a chance. We have been hearing some very heart warming stories as of late about some pets traveling major distances, some taking years to get back home. We will keep hoping for our miracle story to develop and keep trudging along.

Sharon was telling the other women at work that she is planning to have a graduation party for the kindergarten class that her grandson is in. I had to suppress a chuckle, just the thought of making such a big deal about kids graduating from kindergarten seemed like a silly idea. But then I remembered when I graduated from kindergarten our school made a big ceremony out of it too. That got me wondering who in the world even came up with kindergarten graduation ideas in the first place? But when I stop and think about it, I realize that there aren’t enough celebrations in life and maybe we really do need to stop and celebrate the small victories like that. What do you think?
