Jerry Loggins Notes

Notes on life, family and friends by Jerry Loggins

Last night I had the opportunity to attend one of the local Elk’s Lodges meetings, with one of my neighbors that has been trying for years to get me involved in one or more of the local civic organizations that he has faithfully belonged to for most of his adult life. It runs deep in his family and the community, which I think is pretty impressive. I am envious of people that can and do devote so much of their time and energy to the numerous charities and organizations that have been around for a good amount of time all across the country.

This particular Lodge is having a rough time recruiting enough members to keep all their positions filled and to head all of the various committees, etc… From what I hear that is happening with just about all the organizations, they are all in need of new blood and they seem to like the scent of my blood. They were all over me the minute I walked in the door. Don’t get me wrong, they were all very nice and no one invaded my personal space, which is something that I’m a real stinker with the older I get.

I came home with a nice stack of business cards with names and contact information. The one gent that I will give a call to works for the CSI Tech Staffing Agency and I know several professional people that are looking for employment and I’m always trying to network and advocate for them when I’m able to. And last night was the perfect time for that. It was an interesting evening, I’ll go back a few more times and see if it might be something that I would want to commit to.

Junk Car

At the town council meeting the subject of junk cars came up and a law to prohibit keeping junk cars on your property has been proposed. Of course, in the South, the right to have and display “yard cars” is something taken very seriously. So a concerned citizen spoke up and asked for a clear definition of the junk cars that will be prohibited if this ordinance is enacted. This is the list of conditions used to define a junk car: Damaged or defective in that it is inoperable or unsafe to drive – Have flat, missing or totally disassembled tires and wheels – Have extensive body damage or are missing essential body parts – and/or are on the ground surrounded by vegetation.

The ordinance will allow people to have these vehicles only if they enclosed in a building and not visible from the street or any abutting property. Violators will be fined $50 per day for each day the property owner is in violation. It would be nice if they allowed a junk car to be covered by some type of tarp or other covering, like they do in some towns that I have resided in, but they didn’t want anything to do with that idea at this time.

Just Exactly What Fashion Statement Was She Trying To Make

It looks like Ann Romney made a fashion statement on the Tonight Show last night and the whole world is trying to figure out just what that particular statement was. LOL! Personally I think she is too old to be wearing such an outfit and it certainly doesn’t flatter her figure, but it isn’t the clothes that people wear as far as I’m concerned, it’s what is going on in their mind, body and soul that matters.

Multiple Tongues

It is a known fact that if you can speak more than one language that you will be much more marketable in the always busy and competitive job market. Most people don’t even realize that they know as much Spanish as they do. How can you not watch TV or movies and not pick up on the numerous Spanish words that are constantly being thrown out at us on a daily basis. I bet if you really sat down and though about it you could spout out at least a dozen Spanish words that you know just from watching cartoons as a kid.

Right now translations services are paying good money for people in the language translation service field. There are so many languages that are being spoken every day here in the good old U.S. of A that it would be beneficial to speak as many languages as you can. I would think that being in the professional translation services industry would be an interesting one. All the different people that you would and could be talking to, pretty cool conversations to engage in, I just think it would be such a blast!

The telephone polls

I don’t know how I ended up on the telephone calling list for so many polling companies, but I have been getting at least one telephone polling call a day over the past three or four weeks. Makes me wonder exactly how many different polling companies there are out there. And I wonder what they would think if they all realized that I am getting so many of their calls. And they all ask the same questions. Maybe it’s the same company calling me all of the time, trying to wear me down and change my answers!
