We can always tell when our regular mail carrier isn’t working. We have had the same mail carrier for over 7 years now and he always does a great job getting the right mail to the right person and in the right mailboxes. So when we start getting other people’s mail in our mailbox we can bet our bottom dollar that, for what ever reason, there is a substitute carrier on the job.
I wouldn’t want the job of being a mail carrier these days for a variety of reasons. It must be a real drag to have to get up early and go to work in the rain, hail, snow, sleet or what ever the weather is because we all know that no matter what the weather brings us the mail will be delivered unless of course we have a hurricane or a an earthquake of a large magnitude that brings everything to a dead stop.
Mail carriers are still driving their personal cars out here in the boonies, which means that they have to drive while sitting in the middle of their front seat and stretch all the way over in order to get the mail in and out of all of the mail boxes, which must be a real pain in the neck (and various other body parts as well) but better than getting in and out of the vehicle at every stop. That in itself would keep me from getting a job as a country mail carrier, while the city ones are using the vehicles specifically made with the steering wheel and pedals on the right side instead of on the left.

Getting an early jump on Spring Cleaning, it certainly feels like spring these past couple of days, so the wife and I started clearing out some of the clutter in our bedroom this past weekend. Part of the process included cleaning out the storage chest that we keep various odds and ends in. Things like future Christmas presents, and birthday cards. My wife started laughing because she came across the unused baby announcements she had bought when she was pregnant back in 1988! I told her we may as well save them to use for our grandchildren!

The weathermen were predicting a winter storm for last night, and for once the weatherman was correct. It DID snow. Just a little bit, but when we got up this morning there definitely was a little bit of the white stuff on the ground. Not so much that it completely covered the green grass; we could still see blades of grass coming up over the top of the snow. But, you could make a snowman if you wished to do so.
Knowing how crazy this area gets when it snows a little bit, I was really glad that no one in the family needed to leave the house for anything. Being the weekend, no one had to go to work. So if it has to snow, this was good timing. Of course the school children would have preferred to have a snow day from school, but the parents are relieved that they don’t have to scramble to get back-up babysitters for the snow day. Thank you Jack Frost, for the weekend timing of the storm.

Almost each day I find something that makes me realize just how badly this place needs work. The one out building that is used for the storing of and the using of various tools and the like, is in such sad shape that I find myself doing without or doing something else in an effort not to have to go in the darn place. Besides smelling bad, the dampness has attracted numerous bugs and god only knows what else has found it’s way in there.
What I really need to do is empty the whole thing out, put in a nice tool box and a new workbench and start filling it up again with only the essentials and in an orderly fashion. I’ve seen some nice workbenches online, which would do nicely in there. I don’t think that this is going to happen any time soon, but something to put on the back burner, to be sure.
Something else I want and need to do is to start planning on purchasing some out buildings made of metal and/or steel. I’ve hear a lot about these Future Steel Buildings that seem to be right up my alley. I know of a few people that have gone with these Future steel buildings and they couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Next time I get a chance I’ll have to look up the website and start researching for myself.

It really does my heart good to see that more people are turning to and relying on good old fashioned rain harvestings during these past few years of drought like conditions that we’ve been dealing with. Many people pay dearly for water services and some folks get theirs from their well, either way it takes money to get our much needed water supply to us that we depend on each and every day, while mother nature provides us water that just takes something like a rain barrel to collect to use.
My father used to always have a rain water barrel that he used for our small garden that we all worked so hard in year after year for our home grown fruits and vegetables that my mother loved cooking with. That made a big impression on us for years to come about rain harvesting.
I’m hearing that there are now more rain water barrels are being sold than ever before. Did you know you can find many rain barrels for sale right online at sites like simplyrainbarrels.com has to offer? They have a very large variety of sizes, colors and shapes as well as various price ranges. What I really like is that simplyrainbarrels.com accepts PayPal, I’ve put an end to my credit cards and rely on my PayPal account more and more for online purchases such as this.
