I was out back mowing the lawn, thoroughly drenched in perspiration when I noticed my wife was walking across the lawn towards me. That is really unusual, so I knew something must be really good or really bad. When she got closer I could tell that she was not happy. I turned off the lawn mower and rushed towards her. “What’s wrong?” At that point she burst into tears. “Helen is dead” she cried. “What?” I didn’t think I heard her correctly. “My best friend Helen is dead!” I immediately pulled her into my arms and she sobbed into my shoulder. It wasn’t long before she pulled away though, saying that I was soaking wet. I left her for a moment and went over to my truck, and grabbed a towel and put it over my shoulder, and pulled her back into a hug.

It took a few minutes before I got the details out of her. All she knew was that she was on Facebook and saw that Helen’s daughter had used Helen’s Facebook account to post on Facebook that there was going to be a memorial celebration and details to follow. It took a little bit of searching, but she eventually found out that Helen had died of a heart attack a few days ago. What a way to find out that a good friend has passed away!
