The big controversy

One of the things that has my wife so upset is the controversy over whether or not an employer can be forced to provide insurance that will cover a woman’s birth control pills. And of course she has not been very happy with a certain radio personality’s take on the whole controversy. My wife was taking birth control pills for a few years about ten years ago as part of her hormone replacement therapy and they really helped her get through a tough part of her life. So she obviously has strong feelings about this type of insurance should be available to any woman that may need it.

What was this student thinking

I just saw that this video has gone viral, and it deeply disturbs me. The video is about a female student totally flipping out in a college class for no apparent reason. She ends up assaulting people, threatening to kill people, and it really is a scary video to watch in so many ways. It makes me wonder if she had some kind of medical or mental disorder. And it makes me wonder just how safe our children really are “out there” in college. I hope that this student gets some medical attention; it certainly looks like she needs it!

Astro turf

As my parents age I’ve been thinking of different ways to help them stay in their own home as long as possible. For the past ten years they have had an issue with their lawn; they have never been able to hire a landscaping company that will install a real grass lawn and maintain it for them. There have been several times that I’ve gone down to their place and seen them turn on the lawn sprinklers at noon, when it was ninety degrees out and I have been unable to convince them that doing so would do more harm than good to their lawn.

So I’ve decided that I am going to try to encourage them to just give up and look into installing artificial grass on their lawn. It will look good year round, never need watering, and never need to be mowed. In addition, I want to offer to pay for landscape lighting installation fhat will light up the walkway from their driveway to their front door. I want to have the lights be solar powered and turn on at dusk and off at dawn. I don’t want to hear any reports of falls due to poor illumination on their way to and from their car and house.

What Was That Song?

Most of the time when I run errands in the truck I listen to the radio. We don’t have a lot of stations to pick from out here, so I have two choices: either classic rock or new country.

Sometimes I wish we could get a radio station that does only classic country, but I don’t even know if such a radio station exists. When I think of country music, I think of the George Jones, Loretta Lynn, Charlie Daniels, Tanya Tucker type of performers.

All the songs by these new country singers sound so much alike that I don’t know who is singing what song anymore. Unless the radio station happens to mention the name of the song and the artist, I have no clue who is singing, and most radio stations have gotten rid of their live disc jockeys so we never hear anything but the songs and then they go right to commercials.

Stuck on the History channel before dinner

It seems like there are just so many direct tv channels! My grandparents have Direct TV at their house so every time we go there, I will just look through the guide and every channel they have. They actually have a lot of what Direct TV offers, but there are just so many channels! One afternoon, my family and I went to my grandparents’ house after church. I knew right away that meant we would be there the rest of the day. While I was waiting for my grandmother to whip something delicious up for dinner, I just kept channel surfing. I think I spent that entire afternoon doing that. Just watching bits and pieces of different shows, looking at the guide while I watch shows and just taking in as much as I could. Right before dinner, I actually ended up settling on a show on the History channel. It was something about the Civil War. I knew I had a test coming up about the Civil War in school, so I thought the show might help. It was definitely more in depth than what I would have to know for my test. I got so caught up I almost did not hear that dinner was ready.
