Free offers

One of the things that really irritates me is when I go online to buy something, and as I am going through the check-out process an offer pops up that promises a free prize or free shipping and it leads me to believe that I will only have to spend a couple of minutes to get that prize or the free shipping, so I fall for it and click on the OK button.

Soon I find myself answering hundreds of questions, all designed to market my name, address, phone number, and email to all kinds of merchants and service providers that I have absolutely no interest in hearing from. At some point in time I get tired of the process and just close the window, without ever actually getting the prize or free shipping. Within hours my telephone is ringing from some company that got their hooks into my information from that partially filled out form. So now I give them a phone number that is a real phone number to a cell phone that I own but never answer, and an email address that is real that I never read. I wonder how many other people do that same thing.

My wife has taken an interest in learning how to dance. She’s been spending a lot of time on the Internet, looking for free video lessons. It’s amazing how many free lessons you can find on youtube.com! To be honest, I think I could spend days and days just watching the videos on youtube and stupidvideos.com!  When the Internet first came out I really didn’t think that it was going to be this entertaining AND useful too!
