Lawn sprinklers

With all of the extra company we’ve had in the past couple of months, I’ve started to become concerned about overloading the leach field of our septic system.  I’ve had to impose a moratorium on doing laundry and taking showers for a day or two on more than one occasion. I was commenting on my concerns to my friend George, and he was telling me that he had a gardening company catalog that I might be interested in taking a look at.

I wondered for a minute if he even heard what I was telling him; my leach field might be failing soon, and here he is talking about a gardening supply catalog? I asked him to explain what he was thinking about, and that’s when he said that my problem might be solved by putting in a dry well off of the laundry room and hooking it up with some irrigation supplies to some lawn sprinklers or soaker hoses so that the relatively clean gray water from doing the laundry doesn’t even go into the leach field, and instead is used to water an otherwise dry lawn. Since we don’t use harsh chemicals and bleach in our laundry, I thought that was a dandy of an idea!

As my parents age I’ve been thinking of different ways to help them stay in their own home as long as possible. For the past ten years they have had an issue with their lawn; they have never been able to hire a landscaping company that will install a real grass lawn and maintain it for them. There have been several times that I’ve gone down to their place and seen them turn on the lawn sprinklers at noon, when it was ninety degrees out and I have been unable to convince them that doing so would do more harm than good to their lawn.

So I’ve decided that I am going to try to encourage them to just give up and look into installing artificial grass on their lawn. It will look good year round, never need watering, and never need to be mowed. In addition, I want to offer to pay for landscape lighting installation fhat will light up the walkway from their driveway to their front door. I want to have the lights be solar powered and turn on at dusk and off at dawn. I don’t want to hear any reports of falls due to poor illumination on their way to and from their car and house.
