Jerry Loggins Notes

Notes on life, family and friends by Jerry Loggins

Last night I had the opportunity to attend one of the local Elk’s Lodges meetings, with one of my neighbors that has been trying for years to get me involved in one or more of the local civic organizations that he has faithfully belonged to for most of his adult life. It runs deep in his family and the community, which I think is pretty impressive. I am envious of people that can and do devote so much of their time and energy to the numerous charities and organizations that have been around for a good amount of time all across the country.

This particular Lodge is having a rough time recruiting enough members to keep all their positions filled and to head all of the various committees, etc… From what I hear that is happening with just about all the organizations, they are all in need of new blood and they seem to like the scent of my blood. They were all over me the minute I walked in the door. Don’t get me wrong, they were all very nice and no one invaded my personal space, which is something that I’m a real stinker with the older I get.

I came home with a nice stack of business cards with names and contact information. The one gent that I will give a call to works for the CSI Tech Staffing Agency and I know several professional people that are looking for employment and I’m always trying to network and advocate for them when I’m able to. And last night was the perfect time for that. It was an interesting evening, I’ll go back a few more times and see if it might be something that I would want to commit to.

Earth Day

This year on Monday, April 22nd is a day when every American should seriously think about the world we live in. Our mother earth provides us all with everything we need to live and we should all be taking much better care of her. Unfortunately, this has not always been the case. I do believe we can do better. On this up and coming 43rd anniversary of earth day, I believe we can make our voices heard.

It seems that as we learn more about our environment, we have come to the conclusion that we are doing a lot of harm to it. Our lands, oceans, and skies all show a sign of human activity and the past has shown that this is not a good thing. I hope we can all take a minute to reflect on our own impact on the planet and conceive ways to lesson our impact!

I am glad that more people are jumping on the GREEN Movement that seems to be spreading a bit, but there is so much more that we could and should do. I am even considering switching to a Green webhosting that I was reading about. I’ll keep you posted on how that goes.

My mother-in-law is the type of woman that can and will find a fault with everything and everyone, I can only take her in small doses and I’m so glad that her daughter, my wife, is nothing like her in that respect. My in-laws dropped by today on their way back from seeing a cousin’s vocal performance that was a big to-do for hundreds of kids in the tri state area. Four hours of sitting and listening to various songs and singers with only one short Intermission really was over doing, if you ask me, but of course no one did.

During the entire 4 long and boring hours the elation lighting was blinding my in-laws, and numerous others, for the majority of the lengthy performances and for some reason beyond any of us, my mother-in-law didn’t get up and complain until the entire performance was done and over with. I have to give her credit, because after 15 minutes of a glaring light in face would have sent me right over the edge and out of my seat trying to find someone to take care of the situation.

To make matters worse my in-laws only recognized 4 songs that were song the entire time. She It just boggles my mind.

Junk Car

At the town council meeting the subject of junk cars came up and a law to prohibit keeping junk cars on your property has been proposed. Of course, in the South, the right to have and display “yard cars” is something taken very seriously. So a concerned citizen spoke up and asked for a clear definition of the junk cars that will be prohibited if this ordinance is enacted. This is the list of conditions used to define a junk car: Damaged or defective in that it is inoperable or unsafe to drive – Have flat, missing or totally disassembled tires and wheels – Have extensive body damage or are missing essential body parts – and/or are on the ground surrounded by vegetation.

The ordinance will allow people to have these vehicles only if they enclosed in a building and not visible from the street or any abutting property. Violators will be fined $50 per day for each day the property owner is in violation. It would be nice if they allowed a junk car to be covered by some type of tarp or other covering, like they do in some towns that I have resided in, but they didn’t want anything to do with that idea at this time.

Anyone in the event supplies and concession machines business would certainly be interested in reading the information provided by the Infographic below about some of the facts along with the risks involved in setting up and/or attending any type of Rock Festival. It’s been a long time since I’ve attended any type of outside musical performance/event. They have become way too loud and way too crowed for me to enjoy since I’ve become middle-aged. But I’ve got some pretty good memories that I can look back on and enjoy and plenty of record albums, cassettes and CDs to keep me in music for a very long time.
