It is uncommon for someone to come roaring up the driveway with their horn blaring. That happened just now, and it took me quite by surprise! I looked out the window and did not see anyone, or any vehicle. But I thought I could hear the noise of a diesel engine idling beside the house. So I went outside, through the garage, and saw the UPS truck. The driver was just climbing out of the truck, and I went out to greet him. He’s a new driver on the route, and he introduced himself. He asked me why there was a note on my “file” to leave packages on the front porch, and asked me if there had been a problem in the past.
Well, I explained that in the past other drivers have simply left packages in the driveway beside the garage, and those packages were not always found right away. The porch has a roof on it, and gets a lot of pedestrian traffic every day, so the package would be more likely to be spotted quickly than one left beside the garage.
It has started to rain, so I’m thinking that the driver was hoping that I’d meet him half-way so he wouldn’t get very wet. At least that’s what I’m hoping. If he makes a habit of honking his horn every time he pulls up the driveway I’m not sure how well that will go over with the missus.
