The wife and I have been thinking about getting a couple of chickens. We’ve been hearing from a few neighbors that the reason that they have chickens is to keep the tick population under control, that would be a great help around here all year round. Neither one of us has had anything to do with raising chickens, so I guess we will need to do some research on the subject!
I don’t know how much protection they will need in the form of a hen house, and I don’t know if we just let them run loose in the yard if they will try to come into the house through the doggie door! I know we have foxes in the area, so I’m concerned that a fox would get them too! I’ve heard that if we get a couple of goats as well that we could get the inexpensive “Farm Use” tags to put on the pick up, anything to save a couple of bucks is good with me, but I’m not sure about the goats.
